  1. In the market for a Laminator

I'm currently in the same situation. For now the BS gets me by, but it would be nice to have a machine always set up and ready to go. Right now, I just can't justify buying a top end machine, so I've been looking at used Royal Sovereigns which seem to run anywhere form $2500-$4000 depending on...
  2. Internet Speed Test 20MB!!?

    Ditto here.
  3. After almost seven years, calling it quits

Chris, I'm very sorry to hear this and you have my sympathy. When I finally entered the sign business full time I was crushed by the loss of my previous job which I had been doing for over 14 years. Major changes are never easy, but you will overcome and move on. Also, I wanted to say thank...
  4. Head Wash?

I had a similar problem with regular ink cartridges due to the smart card being expired. I would insert the ink and the printer would act like it wasn't there. Put in a different cart and, voila! See if there is an expiration date on the cleaning cart - not sure since I haven't needed to...

Words fail me...but at the same time it's friggin' hilarious!

  7. Roland CJ-500 on Mac G3

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I know a fellow who would. Contact Dave at Solvent Printer Conversions. He deals in all the old Rolands and how to convert them to eco solvent inks. http://www.solventprinterconversion.com/
  8. signfonts.com

I bought the 33 package over a year ago. Seems like there is always one of Steve's fonts that make it into one of my layouts. Great stuff, well worth the money.
  9. Your design level...

Stacy, very much in the same boat as you. I grew up with ink in my veins as my father has been an offset printer for over 35 years. When he opened his own shop in 1992 I had just graduated and went to a community college to learn the basics of printing. Typesetting, litho-camera, stripping...

  12. Mutoh PROBLEM??????

I am guessing your cleaning cycles were set too frequently and/or too strong. I think I have mine set at 12 hours - economy mode.

  15. Reflecting back on 2009...

I admit 2009 was no picnic for me either. The loss of my job earlier in the year was quite a blow, but in its place I was able to focus all my efforts on my sign business which I truly enjoy. Best wishes to everyone in 2010!
  16. Looking for 6" x 24" Black Aluminum

Bull steel has what you want. I ordered some 18" x 24" double sided black aluminum about a month or so ago. Here is the link for the 6" x 24" with rounded corners, though you'll have to drill the holes. http://newbullsteel.com/product.php?productid=24&cat=18&page=1
  17. Roland CJ-500 Price

What type of ink is it using? Any problems with it? I've seen units converted to eco-solvent in good working order fetch over $7,000 on ebay. If it is still using pigment inks and is in good condition probably less than half of that.
  18. Embedding fonts in a PDF

Exactly what I was thinking. Some fonts have restrictions that prevent them from being embedded into a PDF. If everything else appears to embed correctly, you will likely need to at least convert that particular font to outlines before saving.
  19. What is your sign shop xmas present to yourself?

Still waiting on my new Summa D-140 to arrive. There was some kind of snaffu between the distributor and Summa but apparently it is now resolved and the cutter has left Summa's docks today!!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!
  20. Raw magnetic sheeting

I've heard folks having problems with some magnets puckering, shrinking or peeling due to the cheap calendared vinyl they use to face magnets. NOT necessarily due to the vinyl they put on the magnets. One way around this would be to apply printed vinyl directly on bare magnetics. However...
