I noticed that the OEM cartridge is a bag of ink inside a plastic box that can be refilled from the ink outlet end by a blunt syringe. (the kind used for dispensing fluids in labs) I'm using aftermarket ink in cartridges and I can get the same ink in liters for 1/2 the price. Just wondered if...
I will in future... and they are 440 ml cartridges. The printer is new to me and it didn't warn me the magenta was low. It warned me for a week that the yellow was low so I assumed it was watching all the colours. It wasn't.
The ink ran out yesterday at 4pm and it's a national holiday today so...
OK... I plugged the drain tube and filled the caps with cleaning fluid. Do I have to do that once a day or will it hold until Friday?
I may get paranoid and drive to the city Thursday morning to buy ink...

Ran out of ink and I don't have a spare cartridge. It's a holiday tomorrow (Wednesday) so I can't order any more until Thursday and I won't see it until Friday. Is this going to be bad?

Wow... those are fast machines Baz! 100 inches/second!
I expect all these speed figures are how fast the head moves. When engraving the head has to accelerate to as fast as it can go and then decelerate back to zero and go back and repeat the process over and over until the design is complete...
You could fit the chiller inside the base of the machine I think. It's breadbox sized.
I did a ton of research and went with the company I mentioned. King Rabbit and Gweikie are good too, I hear. I preferred the features of the Bodor... like the big, clear top cover. Some have weenie little...
I should mention... I used to have my airplane parts cut on a Kern laser. I compared the parts I had left over from it to the parts I made on my own laser. The only difference I could detect is mine leaves less "smoke" on the backs of the parts due to mine having a knife blade table and the Kern...
Pat,
The laser was about $3700 US including the chiller and exhaust blower. It was about a grand to get it shipped here.
It was built for me, to my specs. You can specify what wattage and the type of laser you want. I went with a 100 watt CO2 unit from RECI but they will set it up for fiber...
I bought a Bodor direct from the manufacturer in China. Swiss design, Chinese made. Works great. It's huge though. About 6 feet x 7 feet and 4 feet high. Weighs 1/2 a ton... literally. 100 watt. About 5 grand delivered to my doorstep.
You will want one with less power for engraving. The higher...
I'm curious about the custom vacuum formed letters. You say Gemini made them? What did that service cost?
I have a Vacuum forming machine and I'd offer my services to sign shops if there was any money/demand for it.

You can really feel the love.
I just bought a second hand Roland and I'm finding lots of info from my suppliers. Find out what your favorite supplier has... it will make life a lot easier when you need advice/parts or help.

Yup... looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen. There is nothing on the panels right now... the strips in the photo are just Photoshopped in.
I've sent my idea off to the contractor that installed these. I can edge light them from the back edge. I called Luminedge and the fellow says he can...
