I would get that with my Roland. Two things would cause it. Sometimes the area around the head will pick up a tiny fiber which collects ink until it drips. Thorough cleaning cures that. Another is what the tech said were ink carts with too much pressure. Removing and inserting a couple times...

I've been doing equipment/vehicle decals with Arlon 6000XRP and 3220 laminate. It's my go to and has been for years. Also hundreds less per kit than 3M.

If you're working with dirt track cars don't bother with laminate. Those cars only look good for one day.;)

I assume you're wanting to weld aluminum. If so you'll need a MIG welder with spool gun capability. 110 or 220 volt in the shop is another consideration. May want to check into Harbor Freight MIG welders. You can plug a spool gun into this one...

A crutch until you get a Summa is print a rectangle much bigger than your text then center your text in that and cut. I had to do that a lot, but it works. Contour cut could be off by a mile an you still have perfect text. Costs more in ink and time, but it will get you by until you get fed up...

Does the client have a fabric covered booth wall? I've done second surface prints on matte finish styrene then attach to the wall with Velcro dots. Looks nice and the print can be rolled up and stored in a tube.

To the OP. It's time to get a Summa. I run an SP540V and tried all the tweaks, parts, fixes you name it. Went so far as to reset the tension on the pinch rolls, shimming blah blah blah. Total waste of time. It's an old rig and while it still prints great it can't hold register for cutting...

If he's worried about kids picking at it I would do a second surface print on polycarb mounted with shallow stand-offs. Once and done.

This^^^ I just did exterior signage for a facility and reused most of the panels.

Maybe it's the calendared material contracting at a different rate than the magnetic substrate. I use 2mil with laminate for all magnets and don't have issues in northern WI.
