It's a RECI Z2 90 watt co2 laser. That piece was engraved at 200mm/sec and 20 watts. The cut was 10mm/sec at 80 watts. I think it would be safe to assume that the fumes are noxious. Adrian

It vaporizes the HDU. I'm not sure how it cuts so evenly to the same depth. With proper software I think you can "carve" with a laser. Adrian

Check this out. My new laser cutter cuts lettering to depth into 15lb HDU and then cuts it out. No more sandblasting for me! This took 2 or 3 minutes to cut. It's about 6" x 3.5". I'm still figuring out how to use the laser but it shows great promise as a sign making tool. Adrian

They just connect by usb cable. Adrian

Good idea. There is no super big rush because the machine will cut from files on a usb stick. I did discover that there is a service pacK (SP2) for X4 that supposedly makes it compatible with windows 8. Adrian

I need a cheap computer to run my new laser cutter. I'm thinking some sort of netbook or laptop. That way I can drag it to and from my office computer to load cut files as needed. I use Corel X4 with a plugin from the laser cutter manufacturer. Nothing will be designed on the shop computer...

The R2 is a very cool plane. Not sure what you know about them but it is a scale model of a 1931 pylon racer. It could hit 300 miles an hour. In 1931 the military couldn't hit 300 miles an hour... Adrian
