we always prime pvc with 2 part epoxy and spray latex on the. on the edges it takes a couple coats and the edges never look as good as face but it suffices

if he wants it painted i would take awning down and spray it. i have done this with latex and it worked out great. i have also rolled on site. rolled doesnt look as good as sprayed but this sounds like a pita customer that will end up not doing anything another option is to match the awning...

first off you are planning on using one shot. that in itself is crap. its will fade before it chips off. BUT if you must I would wipe truck down with acid solution from auto paint store, come back with alcohol wupe and start lettering. might i suggest vinyl on this!
