  1. Sailor's Retreat hand carved sign.

Thanks Joe. I have done some lettering with with Bendy Wendy. It turns out that a big, bent V tool is 3 tools in one! I get a V gouge and a right and left flat bent chisel. I can hog out and carve letters without having to put the chisel down and look for another one. It's very fast for...
  2. Sailor's Retreat hand carved sign.

Thanks guys... I'm glad you like it.
  3. Sailor's Retreat hand carved sign.

That's 24 carat gold Gary. Gold paint just doesn't hold up or sparkle the same.
  4. Sailor's Retreat hand carved sign.

Just finished this one up. (took a while for the customer's deposit to show up) The panel is HDU about 18" x 30". The boat is HDU. The wave under the boat is Magic Sculpt. Letters were carved with a box cutter and gilded. Love it? Hate it? Questions?
  5. I just threw up in my mouth a little

What am not seeing here? I'll grant you it's American... but a 67 GTO is a true automotive marvel in what way?
  6. Resolved: Bossa Nova is the greatest musical genre of all time!

    Bossa nova music is fungible.
  7. Weigh-Ins for the signs101 Losers (the good kind!)

You gotta be pretty proud of yourself. You look 10 years younger! I bet you feel 10 years younger too.
  8. Corel X3 to X5 Upgrade or not

I've never seen such a thing in X4 bob, if that helps.
  9. Don't post what it was, just "i saw it"!

I seen it! (hillbilly mode today)
  10. Joe Diaz Corel Webinar

Can someone post when the video is up on the Corel site?
  11. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

I'm curious as to why you feel mere sign makers wouldn't have the same systematic approach to design as anyone else. Finding a bmx hand grip that works as a potato peeler seems more like a process of elimination than design. Wouldn't a good designer simply fabricate a prototype that did what...
  12. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

I view "designers" with a similar reverence a mechanic does an engineer. Anyone who has ever had to partially remove a car engine to change the back spark plug knows exactly what I mean.
  13. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

bob misspelled "stationery". LoL (Unless he meant "things that don't move") Why are you poking the bear anyway, Joe?
  14. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

bob nails it again! That's what I was clumsily trying to say. Very well said bob.
  15. What, exactly, makes sign people qualified to design anything?

Excellent post Joe. The Gap was a good example. (It spawned my "one minute logo" series... draw a square, slap in the business' initial and type the name out) Take a look at the Adobe Illustrator logo or the new Pepsi logo. Those designs are "stoopid simple". I don't see those as out of the...
  16. Adobe's new pricing strategy

The red high lighted part is the problem with Xara in a nutshell. It is capable of doing things that niether Corel nor Illustrator can do but it has very poor compatibility with other programs... I think mainly because if a program can't do a particular function, it can't import a file that has...
  17. Adobe's new pricing strategy

Yeah.... The one from Topaz Labs is pretty impressive in the brochure too. My advice... eat a banana before you snap that photo.
  18. Adobe's new pricing strategy

De-blur is available as a plugin from Topaz Labs. It doesn't seem to work very well. There is still no substitute for a real photographer.
  19. Ever weed Oracal 5700 reflective?

Sounds like Oracal 5600 and 5700 are two different animals. I'll order a yard of 5600 and see if I can like it.
