  1. Graphic Tracer

Vector magic has a desktop version... I purchased it before graphic tracer came out with the one time payment option .
  2. When does a vendor become a competitor?

The only problem is in Canada where I live, you have the option of Grimco, or Ndgraphics. NDgraphics is 30-40% more than grimco, unless you sweet talk a rep, who you then have to email every time for a price adjustment. Grimco I can buy everything online and I get my discount, no BS ass...
  3. New & needing help

You'd need a printer, laminator, and a cutter . You're looking at 25-30k for the investment just to start doing what you want. Material .. if you're doing floor material, and long term wall graphics... That's about 1k+ per roll with laminate. If it made sense to own your own printer for a few...
  4. When does a vendor become a competitor?

Wholesalers get an unfair advantage because they get the material A LOT cheaper than sign companies. Let's put it in another perspective. I could go to 3m, tell them I want 200+ rolls of material and get a steep discount. Then I turn around and sell it to other sign shops in the area at said...
  5. Graphtec 8600 breaking blade tips on mx sticker kits CB15U

Ah, the one place.i didn't check! Then yes, I'd either do multiple passes or look into a better blade. Could.be using the wrong degree blade also.

  7. Need Help BUBBLES! Need clear answers on vinyl application

It's like lumping all pickup trucks together, and all cars together. I've had some Cast material that peels and cracks easily... and I've had some calendared thats been up 10+ years that looks great. Not every 3M Product is great, and not Every Oracal product sucks. We have a client who only...
  8. Graphtec 8600 breaking blade tips on mx sticker kits CB15U

How thick are your stickers? MX Decals are usually pretty thick... which CB15 blades would work best. CB09 blades are for thin vinyl/laminate, which would explain why the tips are breaking. CB15 is for sandblast/reflective and other thicker stuff.
  9. Need Help BUBBLES! Need clear answers on vinyl application

Calandered has its uses. There are two types - mono and poly. Mono will shrink a lot and is generally garbage .Poly is "high performance". Takes 3m ij40 for example .It's a calandered print film that lasts 7 years with minimal shrinking .it's a great product, and we've never had an issue with...
  10. HP Latex smoking (?) need help

I'm in a nearly identical setup as you. Printers in an uncontrolled garage... I use a heater to heat it up an hour or two before printing. In our winter months there was tons of vapor. It got so thick I could barelly see in the garage.... Heating it up beforehand helped, but there was still...
  11. WHO NEEDS TO PONY UP DAMAGE COST ???

Yup, that way would work too! We have a bunch of crates premade for customers. They use them then ship them back. Not sure who designed them... We haven't made any in a long time. The only ones we constantly make are for extruded signs, them are just flat packed ones so we didn't have to get...
  12. WHO NEEDS TO PONY UP DAMAGE COST ???

Vertical works to a certain height. We do it for 30" signs .Op mentioned signs were 48 x 72... So they'd be 4ft high minimum, and you'd have toift them 8 ft into the air to get them out of the crate .Not too hard... But sign that large are kind of heavy. You'd need two people... It'd work, just...
  13. WHO NEEDS TO PONY UP DAMAGE COST ???

If they constantly need that...build a crate. At the bottom of the crate build some slots, put some foam inbetween the slots... Stand the signs upright .put a sheet of paper with a photo of the sign you need at the start of each design. If it's big signs... You can build.it so the signs sit...
  14. OT: The Signs101 Pet Section

Not many cat photos so I'll post mine. I have 2 cats... But I don't like the other, so she doesn't get to be displayed :D Bought this one from someone selling them outside a store. She was scrawny and in bad shape... Had worms, mites, fleas, she would barelly eat... Half of her fur was...
  15. WHO NEEDS TO PONY UP DAMAGE COST ???

For slip sheets.... Roll them up as.theyre used. Your customer probably brings a garbage bag and shoves them into the bag after every sheet... Filling the bag after 3 signs. Roll it up, slap a piece of tape on it to hold it.... Roll up the next over top, and so on. You can get 50-100 signs...
  16. WHO NEEDS TO PONY UP DAMAGE COST ???

Let's say I called up 3M and said I want to put the cheapest calandered overlam on 3m 180 material, asked if it was ok. And they said it's cheaper and you'll be converting a 10 year vinyl into a 2 year vinyl because of the overlam.. so you decided to do it since you only need two years on the...
  17. Need Help ONYX Postershop 18 stopped working

My onyx is also bugged. For the past 2 months I can't send anything to our flatbed as "print jobs individually". It just crashes onyx the moment I hit it. Tried reinstalling... Even tried a fresh install... Nothing. My only option to fix it is a windows reinstall, which I never have enough...
  18. Need Help ONYX Postershop 18 stopped working

Redwonload onyx and reinstall using repair .it won't delete any settings and it may fix it. Windows update sometimes messes things up... We had onyx 10, and every single month one of the updates caused us to reinstall. Hasn't been an issue since we moved to onyx 12... Hopefully it's not with 18...
  19. Rounded corners on magnets

Do you have a vinyl cutter? They cut magnet pretty easily You could use a router if you make a jig. Easiest way is a corner rounder.. but you're pretty much out of luck without one of the above, unless you try to freehand it.
  20. Suggestions Print Ready Art Files

We just had someone ask for a reprint of a sign we did a "few years ago". A bit of searching and we found the original file from 2002. We keep everything in yearly / monthly folders for print ready files. (Outlined font, etc) We also keep a seperate folder for artwork, client supplied files...
