  1. Day/night back lit sign

We recently got a great deal on some interior back lit quick change cabinets that were double sided. We decided to make a nice window sign with one of them and try 3M's 3635 series black/white blockout film with 1/8" laser cut acrylic letters from Gemini. Check it out. We are really happy...
  2. Long pinstriping not tracking US Cutter SC series Question

I use a program called Sign Cut that has an option where you can cut in steps. This comes in extremely handy for long tracking jobs on our Roland GX24. Maybe you can try a trial of the software to see if it works for you with your cutter.
  3. Sign Ideas / Types Of Signs

I will post pics soon. We just finished it up a couple days ago and we've been so busy I haven't had much time to do so much as take a leak around this place.
  4. Sign Ideas / Types Of Signs

We just built a day/night backlit cabinet to hang in our shop window using 3M blockout film and 1/8" laser cut acrylic letters. It looks sweet at night with a blacked out face and a nice neon looking glow around the letters and the dimensional letters look great during daylight hours too.
  5. 2013 International CorelDRAW Design Competition entries are in.

You mean this was done without a 3D rendering program first? How do you get the perspective so accurate as well as shadow placement? Please tell me you are not that good...I will quit.

  7. The MOTHER of all Mothers............................

OH. MY. LORD. The worst part about that situation is it completely degrades your abilities as a sign shop. It's an insult and she obviously can't see it. But hey, if she wants zero legibility and lack of advertising effectiveness coupled with improper use of a script typeface, so be it...
  8. Vinyl weeding service?

One of our trade printers, Indy Imaging in Indianapolis does kiss cut or die cut and I believe they will weed, tape, and pretty much anything you wish for the right price, but if you're printing in house, which I assume you are, this advice probably does you no good. Edit: Oops, I'm guessing...
  9. Where do you get your blank koozies??

For us it's easier to just outsource koozies rather than print them in house. For what you pay for printed ones compared to blanks, we've never seen any reason to print them ourselves.

Those are terrible. Please stop making art. Haha! Really, these pieces are just amazing. Others may disagree with me, but I think these blow Stella's out of the water. The detail is incredible and although I'm not into whatever game was mentioned, I love the theme here. I would pay top...
  11. 40' x 13' banner suggestions

At this point the clients request for a quote is very vague. It sounds like I should go discuss it with them to pick up on more details, examine this trailer, and see how they intend to make it work. Now here's what I would do and what I will recommend to the client... I would go with a...
  12. 40' x 13' banner suggestions

We have a customer (flooring company) located off of a busy interstate. They have a nice building with large visible signage but they also have a semi trailer that they use as a storage container, I believe for remnants. They are asking me for a quote on a 13' x 40' banner to be attached to...
  13. Hot and humid = banding

Fix the air conditioner? Back to business as usual? Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  14. Please help. Pantone to CMYK conversion needed.

We don't yet print in house (less than 2 years in business) and we are trying to match CMYK values for business cards that will be offset printed. I should have mentioned that sooner, but thank you for the tip. I totally understand that the color gamut of RGB is far superior.
  15. Please help. Pantone to CMYK conversion needed.

So we ended up calling Pantone and they were very helpful in pointing out that we can update our Corel with their color management software to access the 336+ series colors. Phew! What a relief. Unfortunately, the CMYK conversion that they were also able to give me over the phone is way off...
  16. Please help. Pantone to CMYK conversion needed.

I have a customer who wants a particular green from the new Pantone Plus 336 color formula guide and I've tried to find a suitable conversion chart online and also tried to convert it using Corel, but alas we can't seem to find anything that will give us a close conversion as these are the...
  17. Stripping Very Old Vinyl off

We have yet to try the steaming method, but we've removed that same type of metallic grey vinyl in the same cracked, peeling condition with a 3M stripe off wheel, similar to the zapper that Gino mentioned. It works well and leaves the paint in good condition from my experience.
  18. My latest CorelDRAW tutorial.

Thanks for the great tutorial. Beautiful sign design. And to think, after two years using Corel I never once noticed the "Break apart artistic text" function. Ouch! I could have saved SOOO much time. I'm finally just now starting to take the time to learn more of these time saving shortcuts.
  19. Do any Merchant Members print on Convex?

I'm looking for the same thing. We have an order for football helmet decals and would like to offer them the convex product.
