i choose the high quality print settings, it does do strange things to raster images though, like breaking them up into slices, etc. but other than that, no loss of quality. at first i thought so, but i've done comparisons between the 100mb eps and the 2mb pdf and they were identical.

if you have acrobat full version and the pdf print driver installed, you can print to a pdf and usually get a much smaller file size. i have had 100mb .eps files that when printed to a pdf, the size would be under 2mb.

yes, it is best to have a trained tech, i wasted a lot of time trying to do it myself, the tech came and i was up and running in no time.

sounds like might be same problem i had. maybe the f2 fuse?

the tech did a good job, and explained everything well. i would definitely call him again. don't know if he wants any names said. but i would recommend him to others.

he smelled awful, he was more of a tweek, than a tech. i want my money back. just kidding. lol.

i didnt do it on my own, i had help from a tech. lets see, new mainboard - $1200, new printhead - $900, lost time - 3 weeks of production, plus the tech fees. it cost quite a bit considering the printer just over a year old.

finally i am up and running again. it took a new mainboard, new fuse, and a new printhead. everthing is back to normal now.

we do have a mutoh certified tech doing it. just researching prices to make sure we get a good deal.

how do i get a hold of them?

anyone know where to get the best price on a dx5 printhead for the mutoh valuejet 1204?

looks like the f2 fuse was the culprit after all. its so tiny and soldered to the board. i guess the printhead is bad, and caused it to blow. its blown on both the old and new main boards. luckily the f2 fuse is easily changeable on the new mainboard. now i need a new printhead.

this is exactly what the head looked like when i removed it. i was only trying to find the head rank. that pic is the top side.

anyone know a good place to get new dampers?

i just spoke with tech support from where we bought the printer, he guided me to find where the head rank is, only it wasnt there. just sticky residue from a label that used to be there

all of the fuses are good. i think i need the "head rank" parameter since i was unable to back it up before replacing the main board. i can't figure out where to get this info.

i wasn't able to back up the parameters, the main problem in the first place was i was unable to connect thru the network port. where exactly is the head rank? there is no printed piece of paper with it.
