This is most likely overkill but will do what you need:

If you are not afraid of the cloud this parametric modeler is interesting (and free):
https://www.onshape.com/
You can do sign frames with it or all the components for a new space shuttle system if you need...
Cut some intermediate clear into 1" or 2" wide strips and wrap it neat and clean with a small overlap like the handle of a racket or (in the olden days) bicycle handle bars.

Shouldn't be too long before they figure out how to dip a vehicle - then the next generation of Old Paint will be on here talking about the good old days when he had to wrap them by hand using vinyl )))))))))))))))))))))

It can be done in Blender
http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.4/Manual/Textures/Mapping/UV/Unwrapping
Youtube has a bunch of videos that break it down pretty good.

I think flattening the model will be about the easiest part of this.
Just about all 3d applications have UV wrapping tools to do the flattening out so you can paint on a texture map that will line up with the features of the model.
Many allow you to paint directly on the model

So Fred,
bottom line, what you are really trying to say is this is all Rick's fault.
I'm good with that - full "Circle" kind of thing.......

If it is one of the cheap ones I'd get a new one. If you are looking at a mid to expensive used one you need to see it demo'd before you put money down on it.

Once this wrap crisis is over take a look at one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/63-1600mm-Master-Manual-Wide-Format-Cold-Laminating-Machine-With-Stand-Pedal-/261817565309
I've laminated up to 40ft long panels - lots of anxiety but no crash and burn
With just a little practice you can...
Thanks all for the info.
Turns out the month long promo is just a few hours on Saturdays at different stations.
I ended up putting a laminated print on 3mil smooth pvc. Used some clear intermediate to hold the edges down to the pad.
Worked ok and was still in one piece at the end of the day...
It's done,
quality should be fine it opens 4x8 at 300dpi
Cropping is a little odd but I didn't edit it.
Sent you a pm - need an email to send it back

With most rips if you don't need to do any edits you can drop the file in , set the size and print.
So I guess that doesn't work with qimage.
If you have a way to post it up I can convert it for you.

Will transfer a file that big.

To start off get a roll of the cheapest generic digital print vinyl you can find.
Use this to learn what your printer can do.
You'll also need it to find out what you can do with the software that drives your printer.
A good deal of it will end up in the trash. Get used to it.
Practice with...
Hard to compete with the dedicated card printers on speed and cost.
Their gear is set up to crank out thousands of copies quickly that will retail for just a penny or two.
I have the impression that business cards are loss leaders for sign shops to get other work in the doors.

My 1304 gives off smells but it always blames it on the dog
It will print them but I don't think you can make money using a wide format to print business cards.
