STOP ARGUING. Geezzz it's getting to be a pre-school in here. I am paying $5 per sq ft locally to have printed banners made, which is insane. He can't do 80 banners. The quote was a quick quote for a turn around time of 7 days. Next it's a bid process, I'd be bidding with like 20 other sign...
  2. Banners

I don't want to be in the business of outsourcing everything, I'd like to learn and grow and become one of these merchants. I am more interested in learning how to do it for experience and for quick turnaround time. If my customer needs it in 48 hours, I can't order it or ship it off and wait a...

One additional question. How do you create 2" pole pockets on a banner? A university wanted 80 banners with 2" pole pockets, of course I couldn't do the job, as I don't have the printer yet and they were full color. But wanted to know for the future.
  4. Which RIP Software?

I believe he quoted $35,000 for the Latex printer. Unless it's an expensive one of some kind, but I won't trust HP for signs. I am a die hard Roland fan.
  5. 55" Laminators

Ok I guess I will do a self laminate for now with the big squeegee. Also my dealer said I should start with Frog Juice until I can get a laminator. Have you guys used that?
  6. Banners

That's great, you're a big sign shop with a list of customers a mile long. I am just a little guy. I am moving up fairly quickly tho.
  7. Which RIP Software?

I understand that, but it's out of my price range. It's going for me to upgrade to later.
  8. Banners

I've been outsourcing, and it's time for me to have my own. I had another sign company for 3 years, but this new one is only 1 year old, still generating clientele. I don't only do banners, I do vehicles, magnets, aluminum, coroplast, etc. Usually 3 out of 5 jobs need to be printed, sometimes 2...
  9. Which RIP Software?

My dealer said you can't use Latex on banners. But if you can, that's good to know.
  10. Which RIP Software?

Yes I am buying it new and receiving training. I believe it's an 8 hour training, but also they are only an hour and a half away, and said they will give on going support and come by for any problems. They are suppose to train me on the software and hardware both. I considered the Latex but you...

Yeah I charge $55 an hour, another two other shops in town charge $75 and $90 an hour. I do a decent amount of banners, maybe 25 a year? I've been in business for 4 years and I never did any printing. But now finally I should be getting a Roland Verscamm 540i 54" printer around November 5th. So...
  12. Which RIP Software?

I am about to enter the printing side of sign making, I am getting a Roland Versacamm 540i 54" printer. It comes with Roland Versaworks. Is this a professional software that I should use as an entry-level RIP? or what do you recommend I get? I can't afford the best of the best. So please advise...
  13. Corel Draw Transparency

    Yes but usually much worse.
  14. Banners

I only use high quality products. I never use less than a 6 year vinyl, I use name brand stuff, and my banners are 14oz. Kinkos and stuff uses 10oz, most printed are 13oz. So I like to believe my signs aren't cheap quality.
  15. Corel Draw Transparency

Yeah it's like a bitmap. I'd like to draw a outline and cut it out, but how do you use a mask? I only know about 10% of the program, enough to get by. Also by choppy I mean if it's a circle, and you erase pixels, it's jagged edges.
  16. Corel Draw Transparency

I have Corel Draw 14. There is only two transparent things I can find. #1. The tool where you drag an arrow on the part to make it transparent, I've tried Add, Subject, Multiply, etc. It doesn't get rid of the white background. The entire image fades or brightens. #2. The Eraser, this makes...
  17. Banners

The way I price my banners is I break it down to the foot. Oracal 651 24" Vinyl 10 Yard Roll $23.00 / 30 = 76 cents a foot etc on the rest of the products. Then I mark it up 2X or 3X. So I do my quotes like this. Banner Material: $43.50 Vinyl Black: $10.40 Vinyl Red: $20.00 Clean/Prep: $5.00...
  18. 55" Laminators

Because I've read that many used laminators have cuts, bumps, rough edges, etc from people messing them up, cutting the rollers. Meaning is a piece of junk. I'd buy a used cutter, and maybe a good used printer, but never a laminator.
  19. Banners

Sometimes people are saying my banners are too cheap, others complain I am very expensive. What would you normally charge for these? Cut vinyl, not printed. 3' X 6' 14oz Banner reinforced, One color: $ 3' X 8' 14oz Banner reinforced, One color: $ 3' X 6' 14oz Banner reinforced, Two color: $ 3'...
  20. 55" Laminators

Yeah I watched a video on that for self laminating. But I've read that if you have different pressures it will mess it all up. So I think I'd trust having a machine do equal pressure.
