To answer OP's question, no you don't.
We have used an old Xerox 1250 and the magic touch transfer papers work well enough on white shirts.
There are other papers that are better. It's been a while but from memory on the Magic Touch stuff clear areas yellowed slightly quite soon.

Uncoated paper works great in our latex.
Much better than the old HP5500 we used to have.
We've run bond paper and a 170gm silk.
Both print fine.
We created profiles for each although for patterns this won't be an issue.
The cheaper stocks are perfect for cheap short term posters.

Is that a serial to usb converter?
If so look in device manager and make sure it's showing up there as a Com port.
You may have to find and install the right driver.
Personally I'd just call my tech and let him do it.
If you're determined to do this yourself why not source parts online from overseas?

You can turn it off for each job in Rip Queue by right clicking the file and editing printer settings > Auto cut - off.
To cancel it on all future jobs go into Media Manager and turn it off in Media Options.
Ink restrictions and limits are done before building icc profiles, so any adjustments you make there will affect colour accuracy.
Best bet is to try and find a better profile.
If that's not possible you can go into Media Manager, select the media linearization and scale each colour by the same...
In the "marks" tab of job properties,
Deselect > Contour Cut Paths: Generate Tile Outline Cut Paths.
If it's coming up on all jobs you probably have it selected in one of your Quick Sets.
Check out the black in your source files first.
That sample image has four colour blacks whereas your vector blacks are probably only K100.
Also check your profile rendering intents in Onyx.
I use Relative Colorimetric and make sure Use Black Point Compensation is selected.
