Poor saw cuts will make cracks for sure. You can the start of them along the cut edges. Looks like little scallop shells. Add some alcohol with a poor saw cut and you will have cracks. Rolled up or otherwise.. Poor cuts? using a rough tooth saw blade. moving too fast.. OR both.

I have one machine here purchaed in 2002, it has never had a reformat/install. Runs like new.

Problems because of old vinyl.. I doubt it very much. I have vinyl in the storage that is at least 7 yrs old and has no problems whatsoever.? Likely it is dirty before it is too old. And then You must have medium tac transfer tape. Get it and you will be fine.
