yeah, I love explaining to potential clients why we don't have an online portfolio. It just makes my point about the other guys without having to say a word and I offer to send them referrals and samples of our work privately. I look all the more professional. That's the ones I get to talk to...
update: sent him something to work on, yesterday with the note that I heard he's having internet issues. He wrote back almost immediately and said he'd be back in Mexico/civilization this weekend ROFL Since he's Super Speedy Creative Geniusman, I'm expecting something Monday morning around 2am...

I'm with Jill and Bob. I have made it a policy for them to decide on how to word their copy. You will be wrong when the customers don't flock and they should know their business better than you! It's their business! Maybe 50% off works for stereo equipment more effectively and half off works...
