Seriously? I was told never to clean the undersides. You can in a pinch, but is a bad idea. I have ran flushing fluid through the heads from time to time, but never wiped the nozzles.
I always clean the sides of the head. Been doing this for years.
that looks like bad dampers to me.
if you have old/bad dampers your test prints will be fine because there is ink in the heads, but as you print your heads are being starved due to poor through-put from the dampers.
To find out what dampers are in question create 12"x12" tiles of each color...
I checked all the head cables and they were fine. My black head started crapping out that morning so I had my suspicions.
I don't know if the cause was the headboard failing popping my head or head blowing popping the headboard.
No ink hit the head circuits, so that was not the cause...
Different companies make the dampers, etc.
I have orange, black and blue ringed dampers on my machine right now.
Black is definitely the tightest. For the most parts I see the oragne dampers.
It's not a problem unless you're getting ink spill around the head manifold.
I just rebuilt my 2nd headboard today. I lost two heads on my 745 and traced it to a bad black printhead and a blown transistor on the headboard.
This happened once before and I needed two new heads and a head board. (according to Roland)
This time I needed a $6.00 transistor and $4.00 head...
still using Triagle inks in bulk. I do have to do a lot more cleanings, but a full set of ink is about 75% less expensive than a full set of OEM inks.
I don't like the odor or the fact that you have to do more cleanings.
I don't use 11/10, but I do use an aftermarket ink. Who cares if it voids your warranty. Worst case you to replace a print head a little earlier than expected? I saved 20k last year in ink cost.
If Roland really wanted us to use their ink they would not rob us with high OEM cost.
I spoke with a durafos sales rep and he didn't seem to be behind his ink.
Basically he talked it up until I told him I use Triangle ink and I expect the same performance with less odor. He said that Durafos isn't for me.
I guess you get less order and crappy ink. LOL
Powerful cleanings aren't the best thing to do. They are hard on the heads. I don't care what anyone tells you they are. It's better to two two medium cleanings.
Do a head soak. Then a medium cleaning.
Another thing you can do it make a graphic of 4x4 inch squares of CMYK.

when i bought my roland all the heads were full. After I had to change them they went half full.
I prefer full dampers and have seen no difference between half or full.
I find a canned profile with the head passes, etc., I need and then re-profile from there. Copy the profile and rename it to your new media. Then set the ink sat, color ramps and ICC.
I haven't had to make a new profile in 3 yet, but for the first version of VW I was not able to select head...
I had my father-in-law replace a transformer on my 745ex head board. The board was 1800.00 The transformer was 36.00. That was a good day.
Find a electrical engineer and bring a six pack.
well the standard protocol is to flush the ink out with the cleaning fluid for that particular ink.
I then flush that out with the new flushing fluid. You don't have to do this step, but I like to.
After the cleaning fluid has been put in you can pump up the new ink.
I would then change...
Two pass is useless to me with Triangle Inks. With the OEM ink it's fine. The yellow with Triangle Inks is not a mustard color, but more of a hi-lighter yellow.
Because of that reds are more orange in two pass mode. I need four pass to yield the density for deep reds. With that said...
VW
I'm a versa works maven.
I've made about 50 custom profiles is this program.
VW has one profile in the generic banner (generic 3 I believe) at high speed that is 360X540 which is two pass mode. 360x360 is one pass and is useless.
Two pass is useless in my opinion as well.
360x720...
