  1. Oracal 3620 on Clear Plexi

the base vinyl will resist curling if the top-layer vinyl is of better quality, which i think is the case here.... both are calendared, but the 651 is deemed an "intermediate calendared", so its slightly more resilient.
  2. Need Help My print head might not be firing...

will send PM with details for JV3-160SP.
  3. Need Help My print head might not be firing...

resurrecting a JV3?!? need parts? lol, still sitting on my old machine and never got around to parting it out on ebay. to the OP, just a thought before you dive-into fuses & electricals.... the main change from one day to the next, after replacing the damper/printheads was that your...
  4. Paint mask issues

is it certain the blemish is in the painted finish? or could it possibly be that the HITACK adhesive may have left traces of itself behind? could be worth polishing a small area with a clean rag & adhesive remover, and the solution might be as simple as "cleaning" it. otherwise, if it is in...
  5. Electrical Issue?

so in theory, using the diagram above.... if your issue was the magenta printing bands across the media, and you swapped your cables like the diagram shows, then aside from the obvious change of your black text now printing magenta and your red text now printing black (and slightly offset from...
  6. Electrical Issue?

Swapping ribbon cables was always my first way to diagnose that portion of the printer for issues. You'll find in plenty of threads that reference "data swapping", especially in old mimaki jv3 posts, but the same theory would apply to any printer with multiple ink channels. This won't hurt...
  7. On a much brighter note...

    congrats!!!
  8. Electrical Issue?

have you done anything to the machine recently, like replace dampers/printheads? my guess would be your issue lying somewhere between the slider board and the printhead, most likely either the ribbon cable or the connection on either end of it.
  9. What would you REALLY do if you had symptoms of Coronavirus?

i also posted that prior to actual data coming out of all this mess ....and mostly in jest. We just had our first death in my hometown, still no info or data to ease our minds aside from the knowledge that all this lockdown stuff is definitely keeping it from being way worse.
  10. achieve brighter reds when printing to silver metallic vinyl

nah, not here to rehash your approved design.... OP was how to make it work. i wouldn't be printing a bit of it, that looks like that could have easily been cut out of either metallic or reflective stock colored vinyl.... print&lam just added to your cost. design-wise, if we were to touch on...
  11. achieve brighter reds when printing to silver metallic vinyl

uncertain which metallic vinyl you're using but they typically have a grey-tint to them and the bright-point only comes at the right viewing angle. a white base would give you the ability to print the "brightest red" possible, but if that's not an option then 3M's Gloss Dragon Fire Red is pretty...
  12. Teleconference backdrops

been having a LOT of fun with Zoom's virtual background on group chats with friends. physical backdrops may already be a thing of the past, when you can quickly load up a photo from your phone or a google search and let the software do the auto-clipping without any need for a green screen.
  13. Onyx not recognising CutContour text layer

cutcontour needs to be set as a fill, not a stroke. it will recognize strokes as double lines. onyx may just be having issues with the stroke/font-outlining step. convert text to outlines, with cutcontour spot color fill.
  14. Suggestions Pinstripe vinyl source?

+1. whenever pinstripe needed we just run lines on our plotter. easier to keep stock of colors in large rolls and cut-down as we need.
  15. Latex Printers

I miss my mimaki, i LOVE my hp latex. I too, am soon get her a sister. Wish I had the $$$ for one of the hybrids, because wow they are sexxxxxy.
  16. Serious employment question

seems like the most fiscally responsible way to make it through this month-plus, is hope you're part of the mass layoffs and burden the state&insurance companies for money? ...especially if you're receiving a $2k/month bonus to not work. hot damn, sign me up!
  17. Serious employment question

negatory. family members that are on the payroll, are considered "owners" as well and not subject to unemployment benefits.
  18. Are some of you pissed?

no need to get pissed.... all the states will soon follow-suit, as nobody wants to be blamed for any result of doing nothing. Illinois just pulled the trigger, Wisconsin is expected early next week.
  19. HP L26500 head strikes only on IJ35 vinyl

any media i have issues with on my 26500, i just burn the first few feet to get it web'd around the roller bar and taped to the take-up reel. that little bit of tension keeps everything flat & printing wonderfully for the entire roll. other things to consider: -dialing-down the temps a bit and...
  20. Should frosted vinyl be installed on the interior or exterior side of windows on storefronts?

exotic vinyls appreciate interior application. not saying you CAN'T do it on the outside of windows, but it lasts waaaaaay longer when you put it on the inside.
