  1. Considering a D120 over GX-300 or CE5000-60

Graphtec has a real price advantage. The high Euro value (~$1.40) is killing Summa price-wise. Graphtec is better at thicker material ... again slightly. Scoring magnetic is doable, but it eats up blades and you'll want to back it with premask to help defeat the magnetic hold. This is...
  2. Considering a D120 over GX-300 or CE5000-60

Postscript: I think if I were to sum it up, Graphtec is a fundamentally better and better-made vinyl cutter. However, Summa is a close second, and they were innovators of contour and flex cutting, making them better at those specific tasks. But again, the differences are slight. Lexus...
  3. Considering a D120 over GX-300 or CE5000-60

Hi Brian, TThey both do it: Summa=FlexCut; Graphtec=PerfCut. I think this is a feature where I'd also give the nod to Summa. They've done it longer, and the contour-cutting (OPOS) is superior, somewhat, to Graphtec's ARMS .. IMO. Best, Jim
  4. D610 pro roller

That holds the media flange track in place. It should be a cheap part you can get from Summa (not super critical, but helps). It's easy to install as well. The axels on the rollers are telescopic and come on and off easily. Call Summa sales at 800.527.7778; it shouldn't cost more than a few...
  5. Considering a D120 over GX-300 or CE5000-60

Both are exceptional. Slight nod toward Summa if you're doing a lot of contour-cutting. Slight nod toward Graphtec on cut quality and through-put. But in the end, you'll love either one. Terrific cutters. IMHO, Jim
  6. Adding Bullets to text in Photoshop

LOL. OK; it's just me. I probably over-tweak (understatement) on just about everything.
  7. Adding Bullets to text in Photoshop

In HTML it's • or •, but even then I still prefer a gif image that I create myself (better size, color and shape control) So in Corel, Photoshop or whatever, especially for larger format signage, isn't simply drawing them the best option?
  8. Summa D60/U

It might be the fuse. If not, Summa is probably your only source for a power supply. www.summausa.com | 800 527.7778
  9. D610 pro roller

Fairly important if you're speaking of the plastic bushing on the media supply rollers. Smooth delivery of the media is important to tracking. Slight pulling on one side or the other can "steer the web" so to speak.
  10. Help The Noobie

Tour de France :^) (Probably not) But, in a benevolent society, businesses would close in July so that its citizen could enjoy the TdF each year. Then also once every four years for The World Cup. IMHO, JIm
  11. printing grey color

Are you using Flexi? It's magenta-heavy as a rule. Or maybe staying in a CMYK color space, if by chance you're using RGB and ripping it to CMYK. If sending files to print CMYK, I always use screens of Black, somtimes making it a little richer with a litte equal parts of CM and Y. Just a...
  12. Help The Noobie

Poostscript: SignWarehouse.com is the king of equipment for new users. They have training stuff; lots of it. They're the giants at getting lots of people into the market. Then Feller's swoops in and gets the supply business. Very symbiotic :^)
  13. Help The Noobie

Hi Jack, The sign business shows signs of being much like computers and software, only about 10 years behind the curve since vinyl cutting came about after the PC. There's better margin, but tightening due to competition is a given. You might have noticed some resistance here :^) But...
  14. convert cj500 to solvent or go out of business?

Eco-sol seems the way to go, but do you need to add (maybe it comes with) a media preheater? Just curious, since I don't own a printer. But converting seems like a pretty cool way to make money with a printer that might not otherwise.
  15. HELP ? . . . Font ID ?

I guess you'll need to do your S101 handle proud. Take Engravers and modify it, which may have been done with the sample you have. Or the A or B closing technique: Engravers' ............. free Custom font build ... $950, min. Special / extended characters extra. Sorry, a bit of...
  16. HELP ? . . . Font ID ?

It looks a bit like Engravers Old English; it might also be stylized, with the additional stroke added. Whew. Tough one. Good luck, Jim
  17. VersaWorks & Summacut

Yep; no good. The software needs to be equipment-independant. The cutter is software-dependent. OPOS needs OPOS marks; ARMS needs Graphtec marks, etc. The only difference would be when doing the manual X-Y axis alignment, which is a pain and should be only used on smaller projects (only...
  18. VersaWorks & Summacut

Do they make a 24"? I thought the went 30" on the smallest model. Or do they still sell the older SummaCut desktop?
  19. Opos reads registration marks but is off on cutlines

    Yeah; but nobody RTFMs. :^)
  20. Just had it serviced! Now what!

Follow Nancy Reagan's advice: Just Say No! :^)
