  1. Can't believe no mention of it, yet...................................................... ??

Me and the voting age turned 18 around the same time, it was a big deal to get the right at 18, and I haven't missed voting more than once or twice. That includes, federal, state and local, wherever I've lived. Enjoyed town meeting in the New Hampshire village I lived in the most.
  2. Small shop looking for employee management advice

There are 4 of us full time Each has a specific though flexible role. I take the orders, design & quote, order materials and outsourced stuff and produce the vinyl. One guy is the fabricator, installer, applies vehicle graphics etc. One guy is his assistant and is also handles cutting and...

Yea, they only go to 8'
  4. Post & Panel frame system

Got a bid for a 5'x10'post & panel sign with frame. The spec calls for the frame & posts to be powder coated. The vendors I've used offer paint but not powder coating. I can buy them mill finish and have them powder coated locally but I was wondering if there is a manufacturer offering that...
  5. High End ADA

Thanks for the referrals. I will rely on the expertise of the ADA manufacturer and ask then to confirm compliance. If they find an issue then I can make the client aware.
  6. High End ADA

I have a bid for ADA signs for a multi building apartment complex. I've done several for this client before but they have a new architect and the spec for the ADA signs has changed. They are now multi layer acrylic, one layer of non glare back painted a custom color, another layer of black, and...
  7. Question sandwiching mdo with aluminum faces

I agree, I'd make a acm sign on frame and apply laminated prints
  8. A-Frame alternative for windy, snowy open area

I think the weighted 55 Gal drum may actually be too much weight in one spot and too hard to undo. I would go for a heavy duty "sled" sign. Couple 6"x6" for the runners and at leas 4"x4" for the structure. The 6"x6" can be cut at an angle so it could be pulled like a sled. They can add sand...
  9. French Cleats?

Why cleats? Is that sketch from 2010 the sign that's going up? Will the wall have a stone veneer? Personally I would go with clips, especially if it's stone veneer. That way you can make a template of the sign shape hold it up to the wall and mark where the clips would go avoiding any spots that...
  10. how to have a real white on yellow fluo vinyl?

I like the gerber guard barrier coat idea. Lots of times when having this issues and doing multiple passes the foil starts to look flaky
  11. Magnetic vehicle sign stuck permanently

Yep, probably ruined the paint. I always give a sheet about care with magnets
  12. For Sh!ts & Giggles.....................................................................

I've been getting a lot of offers for unsecured loans lately. Sometimes I'll get into a discussion about what an unsecured loan means and what can they do if I don't pay it back.
  13. Best way of disposing with an old printer?

I put thm on craigslist for $100 for repair or parts
  14. Working with Cedar

Good detective work. If it was also the side that was in the sun during the day it was getting steam cleaned.
  15. Super Noob HANGING SIGN

"Say he gets someone else to hang it, can it still come back on me because I made it?" Probably not, but I'm not a real sign lawyer but I have slept in a Holiday Inn, and they used to have cool signs :roflmao:
  16. How to replace this sign face?

Acrylic with jewelite trim. Take a rubbing of ends of face to get shape.
  17. Super Noob HANGING SIGN

I don't like lusterboard and alumalite is too light for a sign like that. A hanging sign should have some weight to it so it doesn't swing wildly in a wind. An option would be 3/4" MDO, properly painted and then apply the prints. Don't get involved with hanging it. Too many issues with...
  18. Super Noob HANGING SIGN

What kind of laminator do you have?
  19. Need Help Finish outdoor timber sign

had to look it up, cypress and Metalex Wood Protector. Just use the wood protector. With these types of products here it is recommended to apply another coat every few years.
  20. Need Help Finish outdoor timber sign

What kind of wood? Routed and all left raw? What kind finish is the client expecting? Sometimes it's best to use a clear or semi-transparent sealer/preservative. But I've also done 2 part marine clear. Depends on the job.
