  3. Okay, another new guy here...

For some reason the sign business does get stuck on age and how long they have been doing it. It doesn't matter how long or how old you get, there is always someone there to push the urine stream farther. In my few years in the business, I have seen youngin's run circles around old goats. I have...

  8. Creative Suite - Standard or Premium?

I have the same issues regarding Studio 8 and thier bundling and overlap in product. I also have the issue with Mac going Intel. I was thinking of upgrading my G5 and getting a Powerbook too, now with Mac going Intel, I may wait till late 2006 or early 2007 till I spend that much on a high end...
  9. Creative Suite - Standard or Premium?

In case no one has noticed, Adobe is packaging Macromedia together now on both Macromedia and the Adobe site.
  10. Vinyl cutting with Illustrator?

There are a million vinyl hacks and hobbyist around, when they find a professional board and talk about high cost and rip-off sign shops, I am amused at what little they know, yet voice such a strong opinion. I do not get offended, what do they really actually know about the business to get so...
  11. Creative Suite - Standard or Premium?

I have Premium, but if you are comfortable with Dreamweaver, then I see no need for GoLive. I got Premium for Acrobat myself. With the accusition of Macromedia, I would imagine the upgrade will be wildly different. If you notice already, Freehand was not included in Studio 8. I think Standard...
  12. Fonts

I agree with Freds comments. Corel is a great start and you can't beat the price. I look at type faces as a good investment and I try to but a font family or a couple of individual fonts a month. Of the thousands of fonts I do have though, only a few get used often. Many are purchased for an...

  18. Photoshop / Ilustrator question

Before jumping into Illustrator, you may also consider Cadtools by Hotdoor. www.hotdoor.com Corel does have scale tools built in to the program and it is way cheaper than Illy with CadTools. I prefer Illustrator myself so the cost for me is not an big issue.
  19. Photoshop / Ilustrator question

I agree with Doug 100% I design in Illustrator and only output in Flexi. Flexi is very capable, but I do more than just signs so the Flexi extension and exporting are a pain to me.
  20. Flexi and/or Illustrator

I design all my stuff in Illustrator and Cadtools (www.hotdoor.com) and most of it is large commercial signs and large projects. I do have Flexi-Sign too. I recommend it for it's great production capabilities, especially a larger sign shop. I never design in it....I used to, but with...
