  1. Font ID help please

Old Goat Roper, Whew! Thanks for ending my search! Was going thru a lot of sources. Korinna it is!
  2. Font ID help please

Scan off an engraved plaque. Need to replicate on the engraver.
  3. Rolled this one out last week.

Yeah, hands were tied with both logos. The Wood's logo designed by another sign shop in the area years ago. They've stuck with it. The Guardian logo is from a national manufacturer of fall protection equipment, so again, what can you do?
  4. National average wages/pay scale for a sign installer?

Jeff has his own design station adjacent to mine. He is my clone. Phone rings, either of us pick up. Either of us quote jobs, schedule jobs, layout jobs, go to the counter with walk-ins, orders materials, How we keep all of this straight is at our morning meeting, we discuss what's on our...
  5. Rolled this one out last week.

It is a partial wrap. The extra time spent wrapping hoods and roofs does not pay off in additional advertising most of the time. I like the partials. We've done a number of them. They're more affordable of course, and that helps. Jill, the interior of the logging store is totally trimmed out...
  6. National average wages/pay scale for a sign installer?

We're in a similar sized market. I pay my top guy about $19.00/hr. plus full benefits. (health ins., vacations, holidays, cell phone) I'd like to actually pay a bit more (he's got a new baby, new house, etc.) but it's tough here in the Pacific Northwest. As I imagine it is most everywhere. He...
  7. Rolled this one out last week.

Thanks for the kind words. You know, this one actually went pretty well. Makes a difference if you're not wrapping around corners. (no hood or roof, or front fenders on this one)
  8. Rolled this one out last week.

Here's an older vehicle with a new wrap. 2003 Chev Quad Cab. Client wanted quite a bit of text on the tailgate, wouldn't be talked out of it, so it's a little "busy". Wood grain planks from Istockphoto.com. Worker on a ladder from Istockphoto.com. Logos from client and manufacturer...
  9. Engraving business heating up! (see photos)

Yeah, that's just what I'm calling it. (did I mention we're really green in this business?) lol. It's a bunch of metal dies (letters) that you chuck up in a vice, essentially, which is heated. You use gold foil. (or other color foil) We bought it separately from a Christian Supply house...
  10. Engraving business heating up! (see photos)

We have both. Actually two rotary engravers and one laser. All Xenotech. We also have Bible embossers (2), sandblast cabinet, and all the peripheral stuff to get the work out. Edgers, corner rounders, drill press, numerous saws, button making, etc. You know, a full shop.
  11. Engraving business heating up! (see photos)

Don't have any of the work rooms proper, but here's a few of the front area. We call it our showroom. It's where the actual sales take place. Picture quality isn't that great.
  12. Engraving business heating up! (see photos)

As some of you know we recently (last year) added a complete service engraving, awards and trophy business to our 24 year old sign shop. Here's a couple of pics of my wife and Sandi (employee) trying to keep up with orders. Neither pic is posed. I just went out there and snapped before they...
  13. Unruly Kids

That may be alright for some shops, but I simply cannot do business like that. We have a very beautiful showroom with lots of glass displays and lot of things for kids to get into. There's no way, they can be unsupervised during the sales interview. Quite often we have all four of us at the...
  14. How do you handle customers who approach you about services?

See? You just hit the nail on the head. Such is the salient point! We don't expect Kinkos to come out to see a client, do we? I tell most clients, we maintain a store. It's on the main drag. We keep it open all day long, Mon. thru Fri. for their convenience. We staff it with knowlegeable...
  15. OSAMA BIN LADEN IS DEAD! US has body!

If you know anything about this special group of guys (SEALS) it's all about team. The squad, no individuals, the SEAL team. With respect to the reward, I doubt if they'd have their hand out to collect it. Just doing their patriotic duty, they'd say.
  16. So.....is it 5 o'clock yet?

Been dying for a martini since I started work this morning. Wife and I will jet up to the club as is our habit on Fridays. We both enjoy our cocktails....and it's been one h*ll of a week. Believe me.
  17. Time Flies....

Peurta Vallarta is nice is you like things quiet. (older town, less craziness). If you're into more wild, more stimulation, Cancun is better. Water is azure blue with sugar white sand. Beats the Pacific in my opinion and I've been to both places several times. If you go to Cancun, be sure to...
  18. Pulled the trigger on a Zund

Congrats! New equipment is nice. Hopefully the learning curve isn't severe.
  19. Roland Color Rip + CS5 = wrong size?

Pursuant to this, I'm scratching my head because sometimes, but not all times, when a file is created in my vector based program and then imported into Photoshop CS5 and some work is done on it there, the size gets changed. It's a problem if we don't notice it and it gets sent to the RIP for...
  20. I just have to know

Yeah, my take on this is a bit more on the intangible side of things. Before I even read Gino's comments, I was thinking: 1) Are we doing these on site? Or at my place? Is it heated? Well lighted? 2) Over what time period is this to be stretched out? 3) How much notice will we have when they...
