  1. fire dept wouldn't put the fire out...

Some people using some twisted logic here. They'd be an embarrasment in a debate class. I'll say this, the behavior that gets rewarded is the behavior that gets repeated. Ponder...how many people are going to ante up their seventy five bucks next year if gets around they 'll put out your fire...
  2. fire dept wouldn't put the fire out...

I think his response was to say that simply because a man drives a Denali vehicle does not in any way mean that that same man's job doesn't involve him operating under the constraints of a limited budget to do a limited job. If he makes 100k, (and can afford the vehicle) how does that alter...
  3. fire dept wouldn't put the fire out...

You work for free? Nobody does. Fire and Police depts. have limited budgets, to cover limited areas. What exactly is your problem? They did say they'd extend coverage out of the city limits to people who wanted the protection. He didn't want the protection! What part of "didn't want" do you...
  4. fire dept wouldn't put the fire out...

Yep. Have to agree. Too many bleeding hearts out there. Not enough people willing to buck up and live by their choices. He gambled, he lost. One of the things that's not "right" with our current culture. IMO
  5. fire dept wouldn't put the fire out...

Flame, BigDawg, that's not how fire insurance works. Or any kind of fee-for-services works. After watching the video, it sounds like he lives outside the immediate city where (presumably) his city taxes would fully cover the cost of fire protection. But they do offer outlying areas (who don't...
  6. Photoshop file too LARGE

Yep. Too high of rez. Cut it way back. Wraps can be done at 80 dpi. But most of our stuff is run out at 150 dpi.
  7. Attachement Method vs. Sign Weight vs. Environment

Looks like your spec's would be a hit if you publish them. Why don't you do it?
  8. Attachement Method vs. Sign Weight vs. Environment

Don't know how to quantify those kinds of factors. Maybe someone with an engineering background. I think most sign installers simply use the "over-kill" method. As crude as that may sound. Use VHB tape instead of the cheapy foam tape, that kind of thing. When we anchor a sign into a concrete...
  9. Worst sign I've seen in a while

Not a portfolio piece by any stretch. Fly by night sign shop, shoddy work, black eye for our trade for sure.
  10. Attachement Method vs. Sign Weight vs. Environment

There may be "industry standards" for this sort of thing, but I've never come across them in my 30 years.
  11. Omega....grrrrr.....

Yep, any local drive. Avoid the network.
  12. What formula do you use to quote a job?

You can't sell something you don't own. (legally, anyway) Unless you're going to tell me you have some sort of contract with the client that obligates him to buy from you, you can't sell "him" or the "relationship" you have with him. He's free to buy from anyone he pleases. (again, in the...
  13. Ripping trouble?

Knep, I had a similar problem very recently which we just solved. I've sent you an PM on the topic.
  14. New Mimaki JV33 130 for $6.000

It's called "segmenting the market". If you can sell it for a premium here, then why not? Secondly, I imagine there's a huge tariff on equipment like that. Also, shipping, customs, etc. Finally, there's transportation, warehousing, dealer markups, commissions, and all those full page ads taken...
  15. Omega....grrrrr.....

Eureka....solution! Ok, call me dumb. Didn't even think about this. As all of you know (except for me apparently) data transfer, especially large files, is real slow over a network. (we store all files directly to our NAS (network attached storage device). So come time to process a large...
  16. Omega....grrrrr.....

Hi Tony, I've got a call into Gerber Technical services. I'll send you my the screen capture of my settings. It's got to be somewhere in there. I can also send the file. Thanks for the offer of help. Stand by. Charles
  17. Omega....grrrrr.....

Thanks for the link. Nope got all that stuff covered. Our older 32bit machine with XP OS is the same. It's been 15 minutes now and the "wait" thing is still going around. This is not a big file or anything either. Gonna shut it down and try and research this. Must be a setting in the...
  18. Omega....grrrrr.....

Ok, running Omega 4.0 on Win7 64 bit. Nothing chinzy about my machine either, 3 gig processor, 16 meg ram, super fast graphics card. (gForce GTX 400) etc. First class all the way thru. But tearing my hair out regarding what should be a simple process, ie: exporting as an .eps file, a raster...
  19. 20 years of SignCraft and Sign Business mags.

John, I could put them all in boxes and tape it all up for you. Since they're heavy as all get out, I guess it'd be 5 or 6 boxes. I'd have to have a call-tag though. But I think I'll wait til the end of today to see if a local shop wants them. Less work for me.
  20. 20 years of SignCraft and Sign Business mags.

Many of them are in those special "boxes" you buy (don't know what they're called) that hold 24 issues. (2 years) But mags are very heavy as you know. (for shipping - don't know where Stamford is)
