Well..... apple trees really are twisted, tortured looking things like that. They look like giant Bonsai trees. It would look really odd to the locals if I straightened out the trunk. It's about the only thing whoever did the original logo got right.
Somehow the text got shifted. Based on the old logo I'm pretty sure they won't notice. (I have since fixed the shift)
As far as I can tell they sent me the best copy of thier logo that they had. I think they were using it like that! They sent me the same file with a bunch of different file...
You can pan form dibond/alupanel and avoid the painting. The sign will be slightly smaller than 4 x 8 though.
You prime aluminum with an acid etch primer made for the purpose. Wear a respirator! (acid)
I wouldnt cap the alumalite. I'd mount it with 6 stainless lags and lead anchors. Use washers and make the holes bigger than the bolts to allow for a little movement.
I like the oval, Ray's and the lure very much. The banner looks out of place to me. I find it a bit too rustic for the other elements..... it's a different style. It's a bit small too..... makes it hard to see just what "Ray's" is. (check out the thumbnail)
Hand carving HDU needs a break away blade knife and a few cheap cabinet chisels and a set of those little caving tools you see in hardware stores. At least that's what I use.
I've had bad luck with it outdoors. It warps on me. That said... I am installing a hanging sign made from 3/4" that I had letters routed in. I painted this one and it has 3/4" stainless steel rails down each side for hanging. The last ones were all bare sintra.
