  1. Halo Letters

we've done it a few times, and our best results came from hollowing-out the HDU, inset aluminum with welded studs, fill with LED's, polycarb backcover/lens attached to the studs.
  2. How big does a job have to be to do an onsite estimate/evaluation?

producing letters for client to install? no way I would site visit, but suggesting/requesting as much info as possible (because I'm anal, always looking for chances to eff-up)
  3. Looking for a vendor for this kind of custom braille wayfinding signs (photo)

interesting. i never see the braille anywhere but below the lettering.
  4. double sided window graphics... HELP!

    A) print a transluscent graphic and apply to exterior.... and voila!! you'll be able to see it from the inside as well. B) don't want a mirror'd version of the image on the inside? well, just double-down and apply opaque graphics to both-sides of glass and charge twice as much. C) want to see...
  5. Switched to Mac

I've actually used matte laminate on friends' laptops because they were getting sick of the glossy-glare. works great! edited: lol, I was still only on page one of this thread. anyhow, HUGE plus-one to either dual-booting or running virtualbox/parallels to have both OS's available at same...
  6. Mimaki CG-160fx Plotter trouble

I testcut (function>squarecut) every time I load a new media. I'm actually upwards of 250 on some pressure settings for laminated material, especially laminated reflective. but most of the time I'm cutting cast colored vinyl at 70-120. haven't had to change a blade in a couple years. i...
  7. looking for knife that can cut backing paper.

+1. i'll never trust a blade protruding from a piece of plastic to cut my backing paper. yellowtools/geekwraps' slitters are definitely at the top of gotta-have's
  8. looking for knife that can cut backing paper.

i use the one from yellowTools and it works GREAT! ...only issue is the teflon needs to be changed every so often. Their proprietary blades last pretty long, might be worth getting a few extra on the front-end, but a great $$$saver is to buy a roll of 3M's 5151 PTFE Teflon tape instead of...
  9. Random streaking of CMYK during print

nice! yeah a good cleaning does wonders for that printer. I operated it for 10years until finally upgrading, but we still have it sitting under a cover in the back of the office and i KNOW that I could restore it to working condition if need-be....thanks to learning how to do all the...
  10. Construction zone sign material

they make "coroplast smooth", up to 25mm (1in)
  11. Hanging HDU Sign on Drywall

square & level :ROFLMAO: seriously tho', however you want depending on size & shape & conditions. hammer a nail or shoot a screw through the face, or add hanger to backside to mount like picture frame, or add studs to drill&mount into drywall, or if its small-enough then vhb...
  12. getty images sued for 1 billion

I wonder if she's single :loveya:
  13. Random streaking of CMYK during print

does your printer have a wiper mechanism to clean the printheads, that's caked-up with ink? or maybe your printheads are so gummed-up with excess ink around the edges/sides? suggestions above are legit, but the thought just occurred to me that maybe you're just in need of some thorough cleaning.
  14. Mimaki jv3 160sp

    oh, and welcome to signs101.
  15. Mimaki jv3 160sp

out of curiosity, for diagnosing/direction.... what caused you to replace heads in first place? my best-guess, without knowing for sure, is that you replaced the heads due to similar situation, heads not firing all nozzles, but the problem might not have been in the printheads themselves but the...
  16. First time for this type of job... any advice?

+1 to wrapping the vinyl around the sides & onto the back of the panel. have yet to have the edges of my vinyl lift when we started doing this years ago.
  17. Fellers is too Funny.

you'll always get great pricing, if you ask for it. all of my suppliers, midwest included, will meet or beat fellers' quoted prices.... not just catalog. ...and apparently when Frank doesn't cash your check in a timely manner, they send you to collections with an attached 40% fee and give you...
  18. Shred of paper stuck under L26500 carriage

almost looks like your dragging metal across the freshly printed surface. could the crash have been so bad as to have bent the prongs that lead the printhead carriage?
  19. Projecting sign fabrication, what substrate and how to finish edges.

might be easier, to have separate frame & sign cabinet with match plates for bolting together at time of install.
  20. Grey's are printing pink/green

its a profile issue and/or printhead alingment issue. quick fix: try printing with ICC profiles turned off.
