  1. Preliminary education & search for a printer

+1 to sticking with a printer that has ability to handle 48" material. Even if you're only gonna use it here/there, versatility is the reason you're getting a printer in the first place... so why limit yourself to a small selection of media available to you?
  2. Somebody f#@ked up!!

more Chicagoland proofing-issues, 83rd & Pulaski. think this order was confirmed over the phone? :ROFLMAO:
  3. Poor quality prints. Trying to find out why

yeah, those should be compatible. regardless of perfectly dialed-in profiles, you should at least be getting decent results from stock profiles. maybe a linearization or ink limit issue, but I'm nowhere near anyone else on this forum who fancies themselves a profiling-pro :) My money is your...
  4. Is there such a thing as a frustration-free laminator?

Seal, hands-down. I don't see how people have trouble with lamination, as it's pretty straight-forward. but then again, I've never seen anything but the Seal & GBC in-action. roll of laminate square, take-up roll square, tight&square web pulled-through the pinch rollers, feed graphic square...
  5. Temporary graphics on escalator handrails...

+1 to the issues that could arise from wear/tear of a graphic, especially temporary. rollers constantly rubbing/touching it, after people have most likely picked-at as well, will eventually cause an edge to lift & all sorts of issues may occur. pretty cool gadget tho! I wonder if they make...
  6. many files coming in from designers have duplicate cutlines

thanks Fred! this will be quite helpful. I've just gotten so used to delete/undo every path prior to cutting (to double-check), as I've wasted so much material in the past when I cut-thru the backing on the second path.
  7. Custom Vinyl Release Liner / Swapping Release Liner

+1 rubber stamp. +1 print/pen-plot onto paper-backed vinyl i, personally, just make decals and place them on packaging.
  8. striping a clearance bar?

went with the first option, with the "V"-shaped stripes. I figured it easier than trying to twirl the striping around the pole and potentially getting some wavvvy-ness in the middle of my rushjob. easy as: 1)snapped line to mark my true-square bottom (mounting holes already drilled for top...
  9. How to wrap with chrome film?

awesome tips! I most definitely wish I were an octopus while wrapping-chrome. heat heat heat & I'm a big fan of "pre-stretching" my vinyl & starting on high points of the curve, allowing the vinyl to shrink-back to its original size (using more heat) as you travel outward/downward. you don't...
  10. striping a clearance bar?

invalid image? never seen that one before :( re-uploaded and nope, doing this on the ground/suspended with zip-ties between a pair of horses. piece-of-cake, but just seeing what others' thoughts-were.
  11. striping a clearance bar?

I'm tasked to stripe/graphic a 6" aluminum tube and I'm stumped as to "how people stripe clearance-bars". guess I've never noticed before, and this would be my first attempt. Leaning toward the first option of the attached photo, simply mirroring the stripe and wrapping V's from bottom & up the...
  12. Will it ever fade? (c)

paint fades, ink fades, heck even the flags placed on the moon are pure-white by now... I have no problem telling a client that with our inksets and UV-inhibiting laminates, they'll most likely never notice it a decade+ from now. ...we also are in the Midwest, and the sun is not brutal as some...
  13. Solvent ink go bad?

+1 to exceeding listed shelf life, as long as its not like 4+ years. Just make sure to gently stir (not shake) the container a bit before putting it into your machine, to mix-up the pigments that may have started to settle.
  14. Just gotta rant...

talked to my fellers-rep, and they will match/beat their cheetah-wrap pricing ....if you request it. still...beyond me why they didn't simply raise the cheetah-wrap pricing, to equal or greater than their catalog prices. kinda b.s. they would undercut themselves off the get-go and shine a light...
  15. Just gotta rant...

educate your potential clients on the fact that lowballers cut corners, always have, always will. YOUR media/expertise will outlast theirs, and you'll stand-by your warranty. ....where lowballers will cash the check, and stop taking phone calls if/when their product starts to fail. besides...
  16. For hp latex owners

+1 maybe dual-printheadcarriage setup, printing colors and then printing a clear liquid laminate on top? ...with user-controlled features like gloss/matte/pattern finish! #uhearditherefirst!
  17. For hp latex owners

    white/metallic ink sets?
  18. Mimaki JV3-160sp - printing issues

the tubes disconnect at the ink pump, wholes lines are joined to the captop lines via a metal tube/stint/insert, which requires removing the back-panel of the printer to access.
