  1. ISO this vinyl

possible they took something like an Avery100 Specialty "Kaleidoscope" holographic film and overlaid/printed a blue-tinted layer? Rtape VinylEfx has some cool blue-prismatic vinyls, but your pattern looks a bit larger than their metal-flake versions.
  2. Poor quality prints. Trying to find out why

even though you're not supposed to touch the bottom of the printhead (in fear of scratching/clogging nozzles), I've had great success using a swab to "lick the goo" off the printhead: -overly saturate a foam cleaning swab and give a single-wipe across the bottom of the printhead in the direction...
  3. Poor quality prints. Trying to find out why

+1 deflected nozzles are the mail culprit, particularily in the black & yellow. if the problem persists when your nozzle check clears-up, then you may also have alignment issues.
  4. Curved 1" Square Aluminum Tube

uncertain if your project allows this, but maybe roll aluminum angle to shape, and "skin" it with anodized aluminum strips?
  5. Starter Vinyl Plotter

why not spend the extra $$$ and get a 48"+ plotter? Mimaki/Graphtec will last you at least a decade+ and why limit yourself to 30" when there are so many vinyl options out there only available in 48-60"? you can always run smaller size rolls on a larger machine but not the other way around...
  6. vinyl, laminate, outgassing and alligator bubbles

+1 bad-signshop-choices: -cheap materials -poor installation -salty responses to criticism of above mentioned
  7. LED sign doing weird stuff

you should tell them that the "Starlight-effect" usually costs extra, but you'll let them have it for no extra charge :ROFLMAO: +1 most definitely a power-supply/installation issue. can't tell for sure without seeing/testing first-hand, but I would have their electrician start with a...
  8. JV3-160SP - HALF yellow out - Replaced Damper - Still NO ink

sounds like you're lacking a good seal with the capping station. i'll bet, if you were listening for it, you could hear a hissing noise at the printhead/captop while you were drawing ink with a syringe. try pulling up, slightly/gently, on the black rubber seal around the head of the capping...
  9. JV3-160SP - HALF yellow out - Replaced Damper - Still NO ink

replacing dampers isn't really a fix for missing nozzles in a test print, its potentially upgrading your gremlin to a full can o' worms. I'm on the road but i'll check back in a bit to throw some pearls your way. in the meantime, set a nozzle wash and power-down/unplug your machine for a...
  10. banding or lines on my print

definitely a feed compensation issue. white lines means your printer is feeding too much material per pass of the printheads. +1 to a misalignment issue, in addition to feed comp. Most likely in your bidirectional alignment.
  11. Warning... Do not buy from CMYK Parts

+1 ...which i've done before. a drop of ink had trickled from my dampers onto the ribbon cable and down into the connection of the printhead. fried upon power-up.
  12. Day/Night vinyl

weird, cause advantage supply drop ships from 3M in 10yd rolls.
  13. Mimaki Print Head Trouble

yes. at least I'd start there before diving-into head replacement right away. clean everything, set nozzle-wash (99min), power-down & unplug machine from wall (this bypasses machines automatic cleaning cycle, and allows heads to keep soaking indefinitely in the solution you filled capping...
  14. Mimaki Print Head Trouble

assuming no major head-strikes recently.... you've definitely got gummed-up printhead. have you tried an overnight nozzle-wash? just to confirm what you did, what did you fix/replace when the "black pump assembly" broke? capping station? pump?
  15. Channel letter quoting

pretty big chip on your shoulder for a button-pusher. enjoy the 9-5, bud. back to the OP, however, without all of the actual details to compare pricing between your two referenced projects, we can only assume b.s. on behalf of your client. besides the fact, that, sq.ft'age is NOT the only...
  16. Quick and dirty: Crash course instructor using the Gerber Edge desperately needed!

GerberOmega also has a youtube channel highlighting software uses/features ISA Expo in Las Vegas is just around the corner, as well, and Gerber is ALWAYS there showcasing their software & Edge printers. Seeing as how you're not too far-away, it might be worth getting a free pass (most sign...
  17. Cold Lamination vs. Heat Assist

+1 heat assist really only useful to eliminate potential silvering. I run my heat-assisted laminator all the time w/o heat (rush job, slow-warmup, git'r'dun!) & without issue. bond is just as good between them both, as they both use the same pressure-sensitive adhesive overlaminates. bonus...
  18. Lines or bending in print

you mean banding? i think i can see what you're talking about in the photo.... dark lines in the head-scan direction of your print? what does your test print look like? (deflected nozzles/ink starvation could cause banding) does this happen on all media or just the one in the photo? (if the...
  19. Mimaki JV3-160SP weaving like a drunken sailor

NICE! I was going to inquire whether the media was drifting or your print was and, if the latter, that it would be an encoder issue. gratz on the fix.
