  1. Bordeaux Inks?

Thumbs up for Bordeaux, used em for a long time on my JV3. if you're not already setup for bulk, I wouldn't bother. Cartridges are much cleaner and are just plug & play. You will, most likely, notice a stronger solvent-odor while using the Bordeaux. For me, however, it smelled like $$$ at...
  2. Poor quality prints. Trying to find out why

profiles. make your own, or pay somebody to set you up right. back to OP, I wonder if you might simply be using media that is incompatible with your inks. at the very least, improperly profiled. what ink are you printing and what media?
  3. Mimaki JV3-160sp - printing issues

if you can get your hands on the individual captops, i'd recommend it... they're really easy to install. wouldn't be surprised if it was a hard-find, as JV3 parts have basically been discontinued a long time ago. i can't vouch for the entire capping station replacement, but I do know that...
  4. what vinyl for indoor wall installation?

+1 phototex. just a pain to contour-cut anything but squares/circles due to the fabric-iness of the material, but it can be done with a little cleaning up by hand.
  5. Mimaki JV3-160sp - printing issues

yeah, really easy. captops are just held in place by a cover and a couple screws ( each captop is spring-loaded with two standing-springs, be careful when popping cover as to not lose them!). dampers just pull straight up & out, o-ring snug-fit. gentle, as to not crack the black plastic...
  6. outdoor pattern paper for signs

I use polycarbonate poster paper, the cheapest I can find. same with banner material, although banner media tends to get heavy on long-runs and pulls hard against the plotter while causing to to drift a LOT over 10'.
  7. Mimaki JV3-160sp - printing issues

+1 dampers & captops are a good place to start. cheap parts to replace out of "routine" maintenance (i only replaced 3/4 captops, and about a dozen dampers during printhead replacements over the course of the 9 years operating that machine) *noted, when/if you DO replace the dampers... be...
  8. Mimaki JV3-160sp - printing issues

damn, problems are usually easier to solve when i can isolate to a single printhead BUT this could possibly confirm ink pump issue... as one pump controls two ink channels. OR multiple captops on your capping station aren't making a proper seal.
  9. Mimaki JV3-160sp - printing issues

most definitely looks like the black, as I don't see any hint of the rich-black CMY values in your disappearing print. a good start to check if the pumps are working properly, is to run a buncha diswaywash cycles. if the capping station allows you to fill the caps with cleaning solution, pump...
  10. Mimaki JV3-160sp - printing issues

might be a pump/capping station issue, not properly refreshing the siphon-effect of your ink supply, and causing "ink-dropout" issues when the demand for ink exceeds the supply. else, you could be running on an empty ink cartridge that the machine thinks is still full. as the machine senses...
  11. Cut Vinyl on Glass? Will it fail?

plenty of vehicles out there with no rear windows whatsoever. if you are operating a vehicle without proper vision for backing-up/normal operation, then you are solely to blame regardless of whatever products "some sign guy" may have put on your windows. its like hopping into your car after a...
  12. PMS 1385 to oracal 651 or 951

paint receptive vinyl. cut/weed/mask/apply before it hardens too much.
  13. Multiple layers of translucent film on backlit sign

    1) yellow trans. background, .090 inline letters cut-out. weed&mask, wet-apply square/centered 2) red trans. vinyl, cut to size. wet apply over top of yellow trans., centered on cut-outs. this will leave a .090 overlap around the perimeter of your letter. inhibiting potential failure down...
  14. Pan face sign with ghosting.

if the ghosting is REALLY bad, GooGone/RapidRemover scrub may "soften" some of the really hard/dark lines, but I've been known to "reface" the panel with white trans. vinyl before applying my graphics. Makes the panel look brand-new in the daylight and ghosting is barely noticeable when lit at...
  15. NGlantz or USCutter

+1 Nglantz rocks, out of north milwaukee area. Midwest Sign Supply and Fellers are also located out of Franklin and great options to have for suppliers around here. Advantage is out of Chicago and is another great option for this area. Talk with your rep about pricing, and they'll always work...
  16. Union Sign Shop's, is there a Union for our trade in Wisconsin?

nope, no "sign union" here in Wisconsin BUT we are a Union shop... Sheet Metal Workers' Union & Electrical Workers' Union employees manufacture our products. It definitely helps with larger projects where the GC will only allow Union Workers on premise during their construction phase, but I...
  17. photopolymer

same here. if you build it, they'll always find a way to destroy it. Granted, it takes quite a bit of effort to snap-off one of the braille dots, but I'd imagine about the same to pluck a glass bead out of a hole. there are after-market braille-dot rounders available, but we simply adjust our...
  18. photopolymer

Jet had some major supply issues after the tsunami in Japan... after weeks and weeks of back-ordered material, I moved everything over to Nova and have been extremely happy with them ever since! it also helped that one of our bigger projects at the time spec'd 3form materials, which Nova is now...
  19. Stealth Graphics/Reflective Vinyl Question

got pics? otherwise all I've got are guesses/questions.
  20. Anyone laminate Phototex?

***Do not sheet laminate textured materials*** ClearShield Liquid laminate & a paint roller works best for phototex, imho.
