Your talking about the small sponge spit pad that the head passes over all the time.
I take it out of the plastic holder and lay it flat between two clean rags and pat to absorb the ink off the sponge. If you do find an alternative cheaper source I would like to know also.

I would not sand either. Would try to put something flat underneath and heat back up and take another flat piece and press down to try and get the bulge or wrinkle out. Worth a try anyway. That is an expensive mistake.

Why not mount your foam letters on ACM panels that are painted the same color as background. Then attach panel with appropriate screws and anchors. That looks like a stucco over lath entrance.
Or, go real cheap and just make some letters out of vinyl with a drop shadow as shown.
I've had paint come off in sheets on those size trailers removing wraps because of old bad paint jobs. Tell the customer your dilemma and suggest a new paint job. You've been "Gabagood".
Material is average $2 a sq ft so your making $8 profit. The more you install this stuff the faster you get and make a good profit. Buy 3’ material so as not to have to do any cutting.
