Hello Fatcat. I grew up in Strongsville-Cleveland area. Many years ago. Welcome to this board. Lot's of helpful advice and comments.
  4. Gerber Edge

Might be worth having. That print head in there is pretty darn expensive to replace, I know that. Machine is useless to anyone who's without the operating software, Omega though. Looks like it might be a '95 model or so.
  5. Hold off on that Vista

Thanks Techman, for your interesting post. You seem pretty clued in on this technology.
  6. Need help with this font

This really IS signs 101, isn't it?
  7. Hold off on that Vista

Thanx 2992, my boy's a software engineer at MicroSoft and was encouraging me just last week to get Vista. And naturally we run Gerber Omega 2.1 on all machines. Just emailed him the notice from Gerber to see what he says now. Gerber will probably have a patch for it soon. I hope it doesn't...
  8. Problem Importing file Into COMPOSER

Bring it into your own Illy program, then export it from your Illustrator program but be sure to save it down to 3.0 or .88. Omega 1.6 doesn't import later Illy files well. Hope that helps.
  9. Hello from Almost Heaven, West Virginia

Hello Bob, and greetings from the Great Pacific Northwest! I'm one of the "older" cats on here. Been in this darn trade since about '72. Seen pretty much everything new come in.
  10. New Versacamm

You should love it. Which machine is it? I think the XC has six heads. And the SP has only two heads.
  11. My first service experience with my Roland SP-540v

Actually wasn't present during the whole procedure, but Jeff here at our shop was. He knows most of everything. We don't cover our machine and we have no air purifier. One thing I didn't mention was that he tightened the cable that draws the print head back and forward. It's factory set at 15...
  12. My first service experience with my Roland SP-540v

You're quite welcome. Anytime you're south this way, feel free to pop in.
  13. My first service experience with my Roland SP-540v

It seems like you can't over-emphasize keeping your machine clean! Ours is running in a part of the shop away from other dust creating equipment, but still you've got to watch it. 10 minutes every Friday at quitting time. That's all it takes if you do it routinely.
  14. My first service experience with my Roland SP-540v

Replicator, this is how it shook out for me. Labor was 3.5 hours at $120 per hour. Travel was $45.00. My encoder strip was bad and that was the biggest ticket on the parts bill, $224.00. Roland gave me two pumps at no charge. Other parts were S-caps, wipers, wiper scrapers, mist pad. Altogether...
  15. My first service experience with my Roland SP-540v

Ok, had the tech out Friday. Was here about 4 hours after a one hour drive out from Portland, Or. Very, very positive experience! The tech, Sam, was very thorough and I learned some stuff I didn't know about my printer. He got it tuned and running so sweet! My machine had been running very...
  16. VersaCamm Owners / Users ...

SignWorks is probably on to it. Be certain, absolutely certain, you're not using the long clamps when you sheet cut. But by all means use this feature, that's what it's there for. No Box Knives!
  17. Gerber Solara UV2

Finally, look into lifespan of the UV bulbs. I talked with a tech from a competitor and he said that they are $900 each and he knew of a guy who'd gone through three of them in a year. (they're considered consumables and not under warranty replacement) Admittedly, he's working for the...
  18. VersaCamm Owners / Users ...

My Roland's a year old, runs everyday. We use the sheet cut feature with everything we print. Just changed the blade for the first time in about a year the other day. Still have some from the original packet. They're not expensive and last a long time.
  19. Roland Ext Warranty

My reasons for not buying extended warranty... No, we haven't used it because we elected not to purchase it. So I guess we're running "bare". My reasoning was this, and it may be all wet, but here goes: 1) Roland is not a newcomer in this market. 2) They are aggresively advertising to...
  20. Roland Ext Warranty

The cost on the extended warranty for the SP-540v is $2000.00 per year. Don't know about the 300 but it's probably similar.
