  1. Advertising on your signs

Like Brad said, a sign bug was very common once. And now I see some large companies put it on everything. I sometimes put a small sticker on a sign, usually on the end of a cabinet or small in the bottom right corner, but not a lot. It does help if someone moves into a space and is wondering...

  3. Exterior Lighted SIgn Box

That's what I thought. I would think anyone who is UL listed is probably building everything in house anyhow.
  4. Sending Large Files to a Printing Company.

I agree about asking the printer how they want to receive the file, most have some sort of upload capabilities and may requiring compressing the file.
  5. Rant What's up with the premium sections being dead?

I have a subscription to support the site, and I don't pay attention to the "Premium" area unless I am asking a question that I would prefer not to be "public" or it relates to pricing. I won't ask or give any info about costs in the public forums.
  6. Exterior Lighted SIgn Box

I think Mike means if the shop assembling it is UL listed anything they assemble would be covered. I agree with your question, if you buy a knockdown kit, can it still be UL certifies if the shop assembling it isn't?
  7. Gymnasium Sponsorship Signs

For economy I would do coro fastened with six masonry fasteners & fender washers. I would work about frame getting wrecked from having basketballs/soccer balls bounced off them.

Hey, if they don't want to take food stamps that's their decision.
  9. "Refreshing" a brick monument sign

I agree, it's pretty ugly. Wonder if originally it was just a monument with the plaza name in cut out letters
  10. Anyone know where i can find a large A frame over 5ft tall?

At that size we make them with ACM on a 2x4 frame and use strap hinges

  12. goldleafing a bronze eagle.

Treat it first as though it were not going to be gilded, but have a paint finish. Clean it thoroughly, if there are any hints of rust hit them with POR15 even if they clean up, as a matter of fact I would use POR15 as a primer on the whole thing. Then top coat with a good enamel, personally I...
  13. "Refreshing" a brick monument sign

If they match the building what Gino said. If changing the color is an option what Gino said and then a masonry stain. Might really make the sign look new and sharp to change the color, maybe a few different tones, one on the pillars, one on the caps and then the base.
  14. Looking for a supplier for outdoor "board" displays

That looks like theirs....https://fossilgraphics.com/ I've bought some and installed quite a few for museums/nature centers that bought them direct. They ain't cheap. We also did an economy version of our own using reverse applied graphics on matte lexan installed over exterior plywood with an...
  15. Acrylic Poster Holder with Bronze/Black Stand Offs

Thanks, yea I saw those but I'm hoping to find something like this attached poster holder. I've already suggested this one to the client and told them I could paint the standoffs if they wanted. With the regular stand offs they have to take the whole thing apart to switch out a poster. By the...
  16. Acrylic Poster Holder with Bronze/Black Stand Offs

Looking for 2'x3' Acrylic Poster Holders with Bronze Colored Stand offs, preferably 6 per unit. All I find are aluminum stand offs. I know I can get black stand offs and make them with two layers of acrylic, but I'd like to find pre-made ones that are designed for easy change out by the client.
  17. What's a good thick outdoor sign material-1 3/4"-2" thickness for a building sign?

If you want wood and will be leaving it unfinished or cleared then you could fake the thickness. Build a sub frame and skin with the widest cedar boards you can get, I'd use 5/4" thick if I could get it. You'll have seams, but that was common when making wood signs. The only issue would be the...
  18. Brushable Clear Coat

If it can really be saved by trimming, I would put a clear vinyl over it and trim with an 1/8" overlap. But redoing may be the best solution
  19. Dealing with hostile competition

I wonder if Mr Dynamic is still kicking *** on the competition?
  20. Is there a good entry level sewing machine for banners?

Old thread, but I have a friend in the industrial sewing business and the number of used machines on the market is large.
