  1. Broken bag repair

I just had a broken bag issue too, on my back up z6100. After looking at what was involved in fixing it, and not even being positive that would be it, I decided to retire this machine. But I have no complaints this was the first issue after many years of use.
  2. Help in Outfitting New Graphics Department

I agree with that Fred...but are there tradeshow/exhibit companies that don't already do their own printing? All the ones I know are pretty complete operations, everything from graphics, to printing to fabrication and show set up. He's saying there a tradeshow company that has been outsourcing...
  3. If you don't employ an electrician, how do you install signs requiring electricity?

Used to see sign fires like that a lot 20-30 years ago when neon was the preferred method of lighting channel letters. Probably arced out due to poor installation, failure to maintain proper distances from something it could arc to and failure to properly insulate. That's the kind of stuff that...
  4. Thinking about setting up at a marina next summer...

I think it's worth a shot. Since you have all the necessary equipment already and a boatyard connection, the worst that can happen is waste a weekend hanging out in the boatyard. I kiss the days when every spring I would spends many days in the local yards lettering transoms. It usually started...
  5. Problem with channel letters with blue face

Blue channel letters are notoriously hard to read. One solution is a white outline, white faces with translucent vinyl leaving a border of white.
  6. That's the ticket..........................................

    Quantity over quality I guess....:rock-n-roll:
  7. TBT Carved sign

I think the photo/light may be causing a bit of distortion. The font looks like Baskerville which has a capital "A" that is taller. Also the lettering arc should match the sign arc better, and I wish I had put more space between the arced letters and the panel under it, and maybe made the...
  8. TBT Carved sign

Saw this a few weeks ago. One of the earlier HDU carved signs we did, maybe 25 years ago? Carved, gilded, smalt background, aluminum columns. Holding up well.
  9. Painting aluminum blanks?

How about upgrading them to reflective? Probably end up costing less to buy pre sheeted yellow reflective blanks than deal with sheeting yourself or painting.
  10. Digital billboard

Look at the codes FIRST...why waste time if it's not allowed?
  11. Painting aluminum blanks?

There are suppliers of Yellow blanks. Depending on size and quantity, if I had to start with prepainted white blanks, I would sheet with yellow vinyl, spray with a good acrylic enamel, or last choice roll with yellow enamel.
  12. Signs2Trade

I agree Marlene, bring back the labels!
  13. Help with Spectratone or Pantone Colors

There is way to print a spectratone chart of you own, don't remember how I did it, it was years ago. And getting a PMS book is a must in this business, so you at least know what you're shooting for. That being said I would sub it to a wholesaler, lot less time, aggravation and cost.
  14. Signs2Trade

    Same prices?
  15. Poor Templates

I use their patterns only on jobs that are "average". If I have a job where there is any concern about the precision of the install we make our own pattern. I have never dealt with adding studs to metal letters, though we have done it on plastic ones
  16. PVC cleat to mount 4x8 PVC Panels - Questions

I would do two cleats, about 94" long and use PVC glue. If you're worried about accuracy install the top one first, hang the sign and mark where the bottom one goes.
  17. Retractable banner stands

Testrite makes a great product, they're Made In USA, and really solid. If the client is going to change out the banners a lot that's what I use. I've also used Signs2Trade and Signworld and was satisfies with both.
  18. Price check

I agree with roshmoss, the frame could be anything from a couple pieces of angle straight across to a shaped and fitted frame. That could cost more than the sign itself.
  19. Initial logo idea - let the fun begin

Since this post is 4 months old maybe the OP could show how the logo turned out.
  20. pan molded signs face reuseable?

Like everyone has said, too many variables to say for sure. But if it's a white face lettered with vinyl it's definitely worth a try. Just be sure the client understands that it may not work, and the face can even break during the attempt.
