  1. Suggestions Looking for suggestions- "what to call my new work area?"

Ok...this is just way too good to pass up.... How about "Sans A$$ Sign Shop"...or SASS, for short. And for the tagline: "The asses are gone, and now we make signs...no heein' or hawin', you'll love our designs". Sounds backwoodsy to me...(which, by the way, is not derogatory in the least bit...
  2. Barcodes - do you use them in your shop?

They're management tools that need to be managed in, and of, themselves. Given the right circumstances, I think they can even be effective for smaller operations with a large customer base, a wide variety of materials and/or inventory so long as you're diligent to keep data records current...
  3. Best Tape To Stick Plastic Parts Back Onto My Old Car?

I grew up in a body shop....ditto 3M VHB. JB
  4. Suggestions Looking for suggestions- "what to call my new work area?"

Totally separate from my business name, I call my workspace "jimagination", complete with its own logotype. JB
  5. Suggestions Looking for suggestions- "what to call my new work area?"

I absolutely love the question, and I would say that you need to AIM HIGHER, much higher. Consider something distinct, something that prompts deeper inquiry when you're in social settings...something that gets you out of bed in the morning...something that breathes life and energy. Take a look...
  6. Building the Pyramids...

Ok, so the question has rattled around in my head about the brute force labor that would have been required to build the pyramids: the pulling, the ramping, the lifting, etc... Why is it that we don't give the Egyptians a little more credit than that? I'd like to think they were a bit smarter...
  7. Amazon...this is crazy

That's awesome. But ironically, it's becoming the norm...and it is now what our customers are demanding for custom-made.:( JB
  8. Roll your calendar back to 1975

Ok....so let's pretend it's 1975. There are no plotters, no printers, no CNC routers, and no lasers. You actually had time to sit down to a reasonable breakfast, and you gleaned your morning news from an ink-laden sheet of pulp that landed on your front doorstep hours before sunup. Out in...
  9. Overzealous trademark protection

What ever will we call our felines? JB
  10. Gerber Signmaker 4B parts and fonts WANTED

Yep, they were CadLink cards...I didn't realize there was a difference. Everything was plug-in...no soldering. JB
  11. What Is The Monthly Software Rental Fee Total If You Rent Like A Drunken Sailor?

I dunno, but he or she probably owns a Chevy, Ford, Hyundai, Mini Cooper, Mercedes, Jaguar, BMW and a Triumph. AND has cable, satellite, high speed internet streaming, and XL Radio. JB
  12. Gerber Signmaker 4B parts and fonts WANTED

I've installed a couple of LMK cards. They're entirely plug and play....no soldering needed on the 4B. JB
  13. Cut vinyl prices peeling after 1 month

I'm begging the question: Does printing essentially create a a low-energy surface, thus causing the secondary vinyl applied to the print to delaminate. JB
  14. Monument font

No clue here....but the original designer should have known better than to skin-cut and paint lettering in this type of granite. V-sunk lettering in panels...or...polished edge in panels...or...frosted edge...or...deep-cut outline would have been maintenance-free for the life of the monument. JB
  15. Gerber Signmaker 4B parts and fonts WANTED

Call the plotter doctor for the LMK card and fonts. They carry both. Every once in a while, you can find these on ebay, but you'll have to wait and watch. I sold my LMK last summer on ebay and it went for just shy of $300. JB
  16. They just dont make good stuff anymore....

A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to do some repair work on some Chinese-built plastic injection molds and I was absolutely blown away by what I saw. They're light years ahead of us in in many ways....while we continue to disembowel damn near every skilled-trades program in our...
  17. They just dont make good stuff anymore....

I'm a tool and die maker turned stone engraver. I'm running a 50 year-old Quincy compressor that once gave life to my dad's auto body shop when I was a wee lad. The pump has never been touched and it's had a couple of motors over the years, but beyond that, it's been a faithful workhorse every...
  18. Artwork Proofing

If you do send a .pdf directly from your sign program, make sure the artwork is converted .jpeg. Either that or lock the document so they can't pull vectors. JB

  20. A bit confused ... not sure how I should feel

I say kudos to your little gal for noticing the differences among her classmates, yet remaining totally color blind. I especially admire her candor and the ability to make a unwavering decision based on her own experiences. That will serve her (,,,and you) well in her teen years. Kudos to you...
