  1. Estimate vs. Cyrious???

Take a look into GraphixCALC as well (www.graphixcalc.com) as it offers many of the features spoken of here (including native QuickBooks integration). It has many of the features found in Estimate Professional too w/o the high price. While it may not compete with Cyrious, I'd say it does fill...
  2. do you use after market ink's

I get Triangle MLD liters for $120 shipped.
  3. Sign Management Software

Don't forget GraphixCALC Pro. It has an embedded Job Tracking function to aid in organizing a project thru the various stages. Free 15-day trial too.
  4. Roland 3rd party ink choices or feedback

I guess the fact that I have been using 3rd party inks for the entire 4+ yrs of having my printer says absolutely nothing? Roland inks prior to the MAX inks sucked @$$, ask anyone that was using them. If you are eluding to the fact that anything other than OEM inks will void your warranty, you...
  5. VP 540i or SP 540i

Well, yes but you can get better than you've shown there out of the SP...I have. http://www.signs101.com/forums/showpost.php?p=665722&postcount=8
  6. Triangle ink

    Refer to this thread. http://www.signs101.com/forums/showthread.php?p=664701
  7. Roland 540vp or sp?

Hard to say for me as I've never used Versaworks. When I got my printer, VW sucked from all reports I got, so I went with SoftRIP right out of the gate. I started with I think 5.1 or thereabouts, I'm now using 6.3 or 6.5. I like it just fine, but cannot compare it to VW w/o having used both...
  8. Roland 540vp or sp?

I don't find the SP to be all that bad really. Using Wasatch SoftRIP, I yield 64 SFPH for 99% of my prints, which is exactly 2X what Roland says it will produce (720x720x8-pass). Yes, a finely tuned machine with the right RIP can in fact do that. I also made a banner profile that is something...
  9. Roland 3rd party ink choices or feedback

Have been using Triangle MLD bulk inks since I purchased my Roland SP-540V over 4 years ago. I have had no issues as a result. It offers better durability, better chemical resistance, better color gamut and a savings of approximately 60% over OEM.
  10. Sign Fonts

Love 'em and Steve is a great guy.
  11. Used Versacamm

That's kinda what I thought, I was thinking $11k should be reasonable for the whole shmoo.
  12. Used Versacamm

Curious what the going rate seems to be for the 54" SP-540V. I am planning on selling mine, but not sure what they're worth these days. I replaced one head replaced late last year (by a tech). It also has an aftermarket catch basket and includes a $2000 Triangle bulk ink system (that I've...
  13. In the market for a Laminator

I've got a Dingtec 60" cold laminator that has worked really well for us in the 4+ yrs we've used it. Would be nice to have some more automated features, but it works fine and is simple to use. It's quite sturdy and heavy, probably weighs 400# or better. FYI, it's for sale too...looking to...
  14. Internet Speed Test 20MB!!?

    Nothing special...
  15. After almost seven years, calling it quits

A little history. We bought our current home with a large shop on 5 acres specifically to work the business from home. This was back in Fall 2007. In Fall 2008 we were forced to shut down our business or move to a commercial location, thanks to our neighbor and the county. Turns out, on an...
  16. After almost seven years, calling it quits

Hee hee, yeah Rick thanks for the reminder about the "distorting text" thread...ah those were the days, huh? I do plan to stick around indefinitely, just don't know in what capacity...maybe just a "consultant" :-)
  17. After almost seven years, calling it quits

Everyone is already gone. We layed-off our last employee a few weeks ago. As a last hoorah, we wrapped our truck a month ago (which we'd wanted to do for years) and still nothing (too little too late). Honestly, though, the decision was made not on economics, but if the desire to continue was...
  18. After almost seven years, calling it quits

Thanks everybody, really. I'd say one thing that really killed us was holding on to employees for too long after knowing that they either weren't cutting it or after the economics didn't support them. Payroll is the largest expense you can have and I really think that was paramount.
  19. After almost seven years, calling it quits

Well, after seven years in the business, we've decided to pack it in. I started the business back in the first part of 2003 as a creative outlet, which quickly turned into a viable business. I even quit a pretty good career in 2005 to pursue my sign business full-time. At the end of 2005, I...
  20. Internet Speed Test 20MB!!?

I can't check my std DSL home connection at the moment, but last time I did I think it was about 2.6MB or 2.8MB down and somewhere around 700KB up. We just started the Netflix trial and using an older WiFi setup, I am still getting HD quality a lot of the time. There are usually a few very...
