  1. Mimaki CG-130 SRIII Plotter Plotter Cutting Problem

I have the same problem. It is very random but annoying when it happens. I also use FineCut and the same plotter.
  2. Premasked striping woes

I wouldn't have premasked the vinyl with those contours. If it were me, I would've laid the stripes down by hand without premask and would've done them individually. I've had plenty of these PITA jobs so I feel your pain!
  3. How to get rid of dust on my prints ???

Is the vinyl contaminated? I just had a 30" roll of Orajet 3951 that was completely contaminated. I was in a bind so I just had to deal with it and hated every second of it. I have about 10 yards left and I'm tossing it. I didn't have time to get a replacement otherwise I would've had it replaced.
  4. Does anyone know this font

Unless it is a custom hand drawn font..... One tip to spot custom hand drawn fonts is to compare the same letters to each other. For example, this logo has 2 each of "a" and "e". If you compare them, they are different. If it was a computer generated font, they would be identical, unless...

    Quatro Slab Bold
  6. New start!

This site is named Signs101 which 101 means "basic knowledge". Why would anyone assume they can't ask the most basic questions here?
  7. pointed serif font

Could it be Albertus with some very slight changes?
  8. Is this a capping issue?

Here is what I had to do. There was no way that the cap station was going to line up with the print head unless I did something like this. There is no digital way of telling the cap station to move one way or another so this was my manual solution. I used some cardstock and then taped it around...
  9. Is this a capping issue?

I would make sure your print head is lining up correctly with the cap station. When I first replaced my cap station, I started having a similar issue. I had to put a little bumper on the cap station so that the print head would line up correctly when it came back to the home position. You should...
  10. Fellers ordering anxiety

Did Frank get to keep the llamas??
  11. Cloudy splotches in 3M 8518 gloss lam

The only reason I use 8518 is when other laminates are out of stock. I've only gone through maybe 4 rolls of this material but every roll has had the cloudy splotches.
  12. Cabinet Sign Hardware Question

It will be exactly that, "the guy said I was on my own for installation". I have it in writing and it was the terms that both of us agreed upon. As for, "The customer isn't licensed to fix this sign", this isn't true. In Washington State, an individual is allowed to install their own signage...
  13. Cabinet Sign Hardware Question

Thank you to all the responses! I've always wondered how these were put together. I wasn't sure what this was called until seeing these posts.
  14. Cabinet Sign Hardware Question

I am making a new face that the customer can figure out how to install it. I was trying to gather information to share with him and I've always wondered how these kinds of signs were put together as I've never had the pleasure of working with these. I'm not making trips back and forth and I'm...
  15. Cabinet Sign Hardware Question

The customer is really nice. I don't think they are cheap but they can't wait months to get a new sign cabinet so we are trying to fix this as best we can for now. This couple bought the business about 3 years ago and I know their rent is insane. They don't own the building nor do they own the...
  16. Cabinet Sign Hardware Question

I didn't go to the location to take a closer look. If I had to guess, it looks like the plastic that was glued to the acrylic failed by cracking and falling apart. I only see remnants that were glued on the back of the acrylic. The sign has been up for 20+ years.
  17. Cabinet Sign Hardware Question

We had a big storm the other day and this sign got blown out of the cabinet. The bottom cabinet doesn't have a lip to hold a sign in. The sign that fell out looks like it had "mounting material" glued to the acrylic and then it slipped over the cabinet and was screwed in. I'm sorry as I know I...
  18. Waste Ink

I wait for sunny day and lay down a 4' x 8' piece of cardboard. I pour the waste ink on the cardboard and let it air dry for a few days before throwing it in the garbage. That's what my distributor recommended.
  19. Mimaki JV300-160 techs are stumped

I agree with the bad cap top. I have a JV33 and I had issues the very first time I replaced the cap top. The print head and the cap top weren't lining up and I kept losing a channel. I ended up shimming something in there to move the cap top over just slightly so there was proper suction. I...
  20. Oralite 5650 RA vs 3M IJ680 R

I also used this material quite often. I've had some issues lifting on the top edges of this material. Have you seen that? I was thinking it could be water sitting on the top edge and then freezing. Laminating is a must! I use the 290 to laminate.
