  1. this seems odd to me

That they would even suggest such a thing leads me to believe they have absolutely no business sense. Do not walk, run from this clown.
  2. memjet wide format - extreme speed

The HP/Scitex turbojet uses a full width print head array like the mems units do. Different heads, same style of printer.
  3. how to run jv5 with lower resolution or less pass

If you're printing on fabrics do you need the 8 color set-up? I would think that the fabric texture would be far more apparent than the dot structure on a Dual CMYK machine.
  4. Gallery Wrap Canvas Print

Regular stretcher strips are cheaper, faster and easier than what I saw in that video. No adhesive gets used and you wind up with better tension to boot.
  5. Advise PLEASE. Pigmented Ink printing on Adhesive Vinyl and Laminated.Anyone DO THIS?

Aqueous medias have a coating that absorbs water. You need to edge seal anything that will be used outdoors or encapsulate it with a thermal laminator. The coating will wick water in from the edges if it's not sealed. I had a sign we printed and hung in our entrance at my last shop. It was a...
  6. 3mm to points?

Uhm no. Take from an old typesetter. Mac's have always used 72 points per inch. You're thinking of monitor resolution. Some monitors use 96 dpi instead of 72 dpi now.
  7. LX 800 finally here

What the replacement cost on the HP latex heads? Are they thermal heads, if so what's the expected lifespan?
  8. Color profiles for 9000s

I find that no matter I do, sometimes really heavily saturated colors or dark saturated colors will band. Then I increase the number of passes and it goes away. It would seem to be some sort of ink starvation, either printing beyond the capabilities of the heads to deliver ink or a damper issue.
  9. Weeding digital print vinyl vs reg vinyl?

The LG 3910 is crap. Their 383 air-release isn't bad, but it's not great either. I have yet to try a media from LG that hasn't presented some kind of an issue when it goes through the heaters. Their Bannux buckles like crazy and both the 3910 and the 383 series adhesives buckle and warp more...
  10. Solvent vs Eco Solvent Ink

I asked my local dealer about the difference today. They were pretty quick to avoid giving a straight answer, but said that you can usually expect an extra year out of each step up in ink for a similar application. So if you're getting 3 years from eco's you should expect 4 from SS21's and 5...
  11. Solvent vs Eco Solvent Ink

The reason I prefaced the statement was because I only recall the info from somewhere. Getting an ink manufacturer to put longevity ratings in writing is a difficult task. I could be getting the SS21 confused with the HS series as well. Or possibly even what the laminated rating would be. It...
  12. JV3 to JV33 is it worth the $$

I haven't had any issues with print quality on either of those medias when it comes to clutch settings. The issue I was having was related to overall print length. The first print would be longer than subsequent prints as too much tension caused the medias to stretch as it went over the heaters...
  13. Solvent vs Eco Solvent Ink

If I'm not mistaken the 3 year rating on the JV33 is for the eco-sols. If you use the SS-21's the unlaminated rating jumps to 5 years. You should use an air-cleaner of some sort with the SS-21's though. I'm told they aren't "that" bad, but I can smell the eco-sols on long runs with heavy...
  14. JV3 to JV33 is it worth the $$

Mine was until I adjusted the clutch on the take up. Set it so it just barely wraps the media around the roller and it won't stretch the media.
  15. Indoor LCD or Plasma display systems

I have a large pub client that may be interested in a few of these units. I see them here used in all the pubs with some kind of personalized stock footage flash based animation graphics for indoor advertising. Can anybody point me to a supplier that may offer either the displays and the stock...
  16. Epson GS6000

Epson only lists 2 years outdoor durability for the GS6000 inks. If you're using SS2 or SS21 or something in a mild solvent or anything stronger than an eco-sol you won't get the durability you're after. That said, I think the reason why they list the overall durability lower than regular...
  17. need vinyl roller stand..

Vinyl rolls stored long term horizontally will cause the core to become egg shaped if not supported completely inside the core. Supporting it on the ends only will cause it to droop in the middle with time. Don't even think about trying to feed the vinyl from the rack on the wall through the...
  18. black bleeds red outline

Redo your drop position alignment. Your heads are probably slightly out of alignment and printing "out of register" so they're not laying the ink down where you expect.
  19. Alone in the shop!

I've been a one man shop all along. There's no way I'd reward my lazy butt with an award. I'd have to make it. I just reward myself with extra time off.
