    Ink splashes on the strip make me wonder if there's any ink on the encoder strip reader censor thingy. Might as well clean that while you're at it.

    Last time I checked (about 3 years ago), there was no such thing. All the fancy paper had to be printed with water based ink. Hopefully somebody has come up with a solution. Let us know what you find.

    It's most likely dirty wipers or some sort of contamination on the head. IE - dog hair, lint, pubes. You know run of the mill kind of stuff. Try using a flashlight when you examine the heads.
