First off, always make sure the wall is properly prepped. If it's not, walk away from the job otherwise you're asking for trouble. Regular latex paint is fine as long as it's not a matt finish. Eggshell, semigloss, gloss work fine. Gloss being the prefered paint. Schlack is pretty good too...

Did you remember to clean the crap out of everything? Encoder strip, pinch rollers etc, etc, etc.... Are you using the vacuum? Maybe try a few different settings.
