  1. New Monitor

Flicker can add to it yes but color temp is a very important factor I'm not sure why you put it in quotes. Also I think you meant LCD not LED and the refresh rate of an LCD depends on the manufacturer, anywhere from 60hz to 240hz. It's also a much less significant flicker than the days of CRTs...
  2. New Monitor

You should and he's right, 6500 are what you want the most of. We use 6500 over all print areas.
  3. Files stuck

Is your HD reporting any SMART errors?
  4. Design advise fullwrap

Do either of you speak Dutch? It's a sauna/pool/whirlpool company.
  5. Files stuck

FindLinks should tell you what's still referencing that file and PendMoves/MoveFile are more good options to delete on reboot.
  6. New Monitor

If there are overhead flourescents used mixed color temps throughout the shop, this is really what the above people are indicating when they are adding incandescants (which are evil). You can buy FLs and CFLs in every color temp range now. Also, if you're working near the large format...
  7. New Monitor

Make sure your ergonomics are sound: you're looking at the monitor from the correct angle, at the correct distance, etc. and minimize glare as much as you can. Don't go to sleep right after staring at a screen, read a book or something for 30 minutes or more. TVs are screens too.
  8. Network/speed significantly reduced. Why???

Basically you cold rebooted which caused your router to reassign your mac address, so it was an IP conflict. By the way "discharging static" didn't do anything in relation to this problem ;). It's also not static it's charged capacitors that you are discharging when you hit power with an...
  9. Good investment?

Here's the answer: the Pantone Bridge CMYK values are for process offset printing. We're not offset printers. The process colors in your inkjet have different characteristics than offset process inks. Inkjet process is typically a wider gamut which is why you use a RIP with internal PMS color...
  10. HP's proposed new logo.

They'll have to change it again in 5 years as it may look cool but it only functions for people who already know the brand really well. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for the redesign either and that's always an error. Who knows maybe a CEO really likes Black Flag.
  11. walk away

Was just going to post this ;). Great talk and exactly how designers need to approach their business.
  12. Files stuck

Bootdeleter or killbox or write a batch script to delete after restart.
  13. Photoshop users, check this out

Don't actually have to manually photoshop out the struts and supports, with film software you can define objects that you want to remove and the software will live track and replace those objects throughout a scene.
  14. 1st time I have seen a conversion van wrapped

Chevy Express conversion vans are a really popular wrap vehicle though declining in popularity as the Transit Connect is taking over that market segment aggressively.
  15. Widest printer

You're looking for what's called grand format. HP Scitex has multiple 5 meter printers, Vutek has a 7 meter, not sure what company makes one out to 8. Best bet is to talk the client into splitting it, you can't see seams on a banner that large from typical viewing distances.
  16. Network/speed significantly reduced. Why???

If you really want a speed boost you can put the IP to computer name resolutions directly into your hosts file for all your internal computers. That's not the issue here, I agree it's probably an IP conflict, but thought I'd throw it out there in case it helps anyone as name resolution is a...
  17. Design advise fullwrap

What about taking the bottom left and using the water texture over the entire car instead of just in the oval? Also getting rid of the blue n behind the logo, it interferes with the readability of the logo text a bit. Something to try anyway, full wraps that are all texture (water) turn heads...
  18. Good investment?

Knowing how to handle Pantone colors is pretty critical, any designs that come in from external sources done by a trained designer will use them as it's the only universal color system that's widely accepted throughout all design industries. You should also never try to match the screen--you...
  19. Corel Vs. Adobe....

Smart Guides were added to all Adobe products in CS4 and they're awesome. Learn the hotkey to turn them on and off on the fly for the times when it's trying to snap to something you don't want it to. Really, really nice for many things though and has really sped up our design work.
  20. Adding a third (cintiq) monitor to my setup.

The services I mentioned above are all good, check 'em out.
