Thanks, Kevin! Members like you are exactly why we became a merchant member and renewed for a year as of today. I'm glad (and proud!) that we're able to help and we're looking forward to working with you and anyone else who needs quality work done. We founded this company based on...

  3. So...I want to start a yard sign business.

i'm surprised it hasnt been marked legendary and been added to the repository.
  4. Merritts Quotes

Shoot me a message when you get a minute! I've left a few VMs/emails.
  5. Did Avery strike again?

looks like a wet install failure... try installing it taped instead.
  6. Server

please please tell me you're not sharing over the web using dyndns... very insecure. if so, use hamachi from logmein.com for a cheap/easy start until you can learn openvpn. also, to start samba... chkconfig smb on as root. this will make samba start when the machine starts.
  7. Switches and Network Architecture

imho, do the set and allow for expandability... otherwise, the client may question why you're doing the job. build with their interests in mind and you'll have a client for life... this will also make your future work for them easier. also, if you explain why you're using a 48 and a 24...
  8. Switches and Network Architecture

go with the procurve setup, monitor it and keep an eye open for expandability.
  9. Switches and Network Architecture

in line with sightline... those are the prices? seriously? get em! procurves are great, but that's a good deal for cisco- long term hardware at a very discounted price.
  10. Switches and Network Architecture

...and of course, I just found out a tech ran an update on my monitoring service and broke MTRG. great. there goes my saturday... in the meantime, http://oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/ I use OPSView (nagios wrapper) that contains mrtg as well. You can monitor unlimited variables (desktops, servers...
  11. Switches and Network Architecture

seems pretty straightforward... i really think the 48/24 plan based on priority would be a great solution. you can add smaller switches later if necessary, but I'd assume that's a while off- hopefully a better budget for then... also, procurves hold resale value well (not as well as cisco...
  12. Need a Mac...

ive got a mac keyboard with a number pad... they still make em. also, the keymap is a bit different, but the command key and all that still works on a non-mac keyboard... just mapped elsewhere.
  13. Switches and Network Architecture

also, that 24 port you listed looks like a good buy... do you have an MRTG server running at this office, out of curiosity? Maybe a smaller (12-16 port) for the internet connection/printers uplinked to workstations/servers on...
  14. Switches and Network Architecture

I'm not trying to sway you from HP, personally... I'd use a managed ProCurve 24 port if I were putting this project together (funds depending...)... They're my go-to. Rock solid, reliable, great web access... but may be a bit pricey depending on your outlet. If you're looking for procurve...
  15. Any ideas on what happened?

with those materials... amazed it lasted that long.
  16. Switches and Network Architecture

hear me out on this, i know it sounds a bit crazy... and really isn't ideal. with good throughput, 1.5k is a very low budget... no chance at running a catalyst, and even with cisco switches that have 10gig-e crosslinks... you're over your budget. If it were me (assuming you have 48 active)...
  17. Switches and Network Architecture

in that case, your internet connection is your bottleneck... I'd question if gigabit throughput between switches is the solution. A good staggered group of 12-16 port gigabit switches to a primary 24 port gig switch handling uplink and servers should solve this problem inexpensively and quickly...
  18. Wireless Network Bridge

wht kind of routers are you using? if it's DDWRT compatible, you can use one as a bridge.. wirelessly or by running a cable between em.
  19. Need a Mac...

i totally agree, however there is a very simple way to disable mass storage usb devices only, leaving other peripherals operational... example: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/networking/disable-usb-storage-under-os-x-or-windows/297, or it can be done on a domain/policy basis with a windows AD...
  20. Applying App Tape With Core

use even pressure to avoid wrinkles/bubbles... pushing that large of a roll of tape is tough (we do the same thing)... you might want to try a big squeegee laminator tool. we bought one for use on big mask jobs, saved a lot of frustration.
