  1. questions about head alignment mimaki jv3

I've always replaced the values as well, works great. Don't know where the add/subtract meme started but it can't yield good results. I do a basic bi-directional print.adjust once a week (more under heavy production, and I pop into the "secret" maintenance mode once a year or so and do all the...
  2. JV3 and JV33 non stop!!!

A 5 minute custody wash between runs isn't going to kill his production (making sure to clean the wiper). For that matter neither will the 5 minutes it takes to run a print.adjust once a week. Guy sounds like he's heading towards trashing his machine. Ask him how much 5 minutes of his time a day...
  3. Need help Printing Static cling on my JV3

You can also just clamp ~3 table clips to the media to provide a bit of weight/keep tension. For static cling I actually drop the heat down quite low and slow down the passes/up the pass count. And yes, it takes ages to dry, though our environment is unavoidably low humidity so that isn't as...
  4. Ice Cream Truck Business Cards

Flip the swoosh shape vertically, reverse the two swoosh colors (and switch the text color) so that the lighter color is in the top half and vise versa, add a subtle gradient so that there's slightly lighter tone behind the bus (radial white to trans gradient, behind bus, above swoosh colors...
  5. Does anyone have any tutorials on making this???

Illustrator: Type in text Effect>3D>Extrude & Bevel Get the settings correct (preview until it looks like you want it), hit Okay Object>Expand Appearance Change colors/strokes on the shapes to match the original (Isolate Selected Group first so you can do so) :)
  6. 2 x JV3+Winows7 issues

Ah, you're creating in Flexi as well. Virtual printer is a way of treating RIP software as a printer so that you can output directly to it from Illustrator, etc. without using the RIP's preflight GUI. Doesn't seem applicable here. Did you resolve your issues?
  7. Designing, CMYK or RGB?

Original design work in CMYK but with lots of pantone spots as the rip color tables do a good job with them. I don't like working in a gamut that's going to be crunched like (RGB) is and I know how the pantones will come out as I can just look at the pantone conversion swatches (Bridge)/media...
  8. Help with this font

Might not be a font, just as likely it was designed specifically for that purpose/branding. Have you checked http://www.identifont.com/ and http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ ?
  9. JV3 Cleaning Cartridges

It's under head wash. It'll have you load, unload, reload, etc. the wash carts a bunch of times. Annoying, takes forever, but that's what it is. When we switched inks we flushed the system with the old ink's wash and then flushed again with the new wash before loading the new inks. Likely...
  10. Solid colours suddenly not giving very good results, any ideas?

What inks are you running? Have you reprofiled/adjusted ink % lately? How old are the dampers? Wondering if it's ink starvation or possibly weak inks from a cheap manufacturer.
  11. Solid colours suddenly not giving very good results, any ideas?

Looks like you need to adjust your media comp feed rate, that'll fix the horizontal bands. The light yellowish splotches are something on the media, probably a hand print. Can't tell what else is going on without a closer shot.
  12. Good color management!

Have them pick a Pantone, check the Pantone Color Bridge swatchbook and describe the shift (if they don't have their own) when printed process color. Heck of a lot easier to use industry standards than to assume technical competence on the part of your clients like having them install ICC...
  13. CS4 anyone using it?

Yep. Not that us Windows guys care, since CS4 was 64-bit for us. :ROFLMAO: Not really Apple's fault, Adobe didn't get with the game fast enough moving their applications off of carbon. The Adobe osX team is much worse than the Windows team for some reason, have been for a long time. Prime...
  14. Ink left in cartridges

There is on our JV3-160SP--it just doesn't work very well.
  15. Does anyone else have a Mimaki cutter that is a POS?

As a rule we simply don't cut any run longer than 4' on our CG-160FX. If we have to go longer we add a ton of bleed to compensate, and any time we can do a job in cut vinyl alone (not printed) we use a Gerber enVision.
  16. 2 x JV3+Winows7 issues

I don't know anything about Flexi but you could try setting the printer properties to send the jobs directly to the printer (I'm assuming it's a Flexi virtual printer or something?) instead of sending it through the Windows spool. Print Properties>Advanced>Print Directly to the Printer If that...
  17. grainy print?

What's your humidity? When was the last time you did a print.adjust? Are you printing bidirectional or unidirectional?
  18. Jv3 / Flexi 7.6 stops mid-print

I haven't used Flexi but is there a setting where you can tell it how much of the job to bufffer before printing? Also I hope you followed through an uninstalled Norton, if you really need to run AV on your RIP computer run MS Security Essentials or even better passive scanning solution like...
  19. Anyone using Eleven Ten Color Inks?

We switched over to Triangle after 11/10 died. Advantage was great to work with as always. We flushed the system, switched over, reprofiled everything within an afternoon. Colors seem more vibrant than the 11/10, though the solvent smell is a bit stronger. jv3-160sp
  20. what adobe plug in would you get???

The only plugins I really find useful are: Genuine Fractals 6 http://www.ononesoftware.com/detail.php?prodLine_id=7 Noise Ninja http://www.picturecode.com/ Vertus Fluid Mask http://www.vertustech.com/fluidMask/overview.html "Effects" plugins are a waste of money and a crutch, learn how to do...
