  1. Funny thing going on in Photoshop. Help?

Is it a new document or are you pasting it into an existing document? If an existing doc, are you pasting it under any other layers? What are the layer settings for the new layer? Is there an adjustment layer above it?
  2. painted septic truck..what digital vinyl would you use?

I'd go with cast on any truck transporting any liquid (well, I'd go with cast on just about any vehicle anyway), even a good high end calendered seems like asking for trouble. Especially on a repainted septic truck.
  3. Sintra for Exterior Signs

Ditto what everybody else says, good high-quality 3/4"+ thick PVC works fine outside. We've been using it for 7 or 8 years in place of MDO for permanent signs and haven't seen a failure (or any warping) with it. I agree, painting it yields a better long-term product.
  4. A great way to END the week off bad!

I'm glad it all worked out well for you but holy cow, how do they proceed with a job that huge without Honda's permission?!? Man!
  5. Seriously Arlon? Anyone using this stuff please look

Tech, it's the vinyl, not cleaning or installation. Arlon has been having this problem for years, the face stock separates from the adhesive, similar to what Avery did. It's probably exacerbated by water/cleaner running down the vertical surface, but it's not caused by it. Any and all vinyl...
  6. Seriously Arlon? Anyone using this stuff please look

I've been hearing about these issues for a few years now. That sucks, that's almost a worse failure than Avery. What is Arlon doing about it?
  7. What Would You Do.

Well, your customer has no right to be mad at you for the other company's install policy, but I think you're still screwed. You can't really say you won't do the job unless you can install them too. They're going to want you to produce the graphics only and hand them off for installation, and...
  8. T1 line?

Well, hehe, here's the deal with the cable/DSL thing. Right now we have both. We originally had DSL from the phone company, getting about 2.5 down and 512 up, but as time goes on the connection is slowing down. Now at best we get about 1.5-2 down, in the afternoons we see below 1mbps down, which...
  9. T1 line?

Anybody here on a T1 line? We're considering switching to one from our current DSL. I don't know much about them or how they work, but I understand comparing them or their speed to DSl isn't really a fair comparison. We're looking at a 1.5mbps up/down speed, which concerns me because we're...
  10. A quick sign design

Great work Charles! I've long admired your lettering abilities!
  11. aaarghhh... Customer Sends Me ANOTHER PPT File

Oh my god why do people do this? It's my biggest pet peeve. I cannot wrap my hear around their logic. "Here's our print ready artwork in .pdf format. Can we please see a .pdf proof?" I justs forward their email back and say here's your proof. Almost every time they will make a change and resend...
  12. Wayfinding ADA Examples

Check out www.csbsigns.com, they do some really awesome work.
  13. Anyone Closing Christmas through New Year

My wife and I are going to go to Boston that week but the shop will still be open. Usually a fairly slow time of the year but we have a few customers who rely on us that week so we can't totally close as much as I'd like to.
  14. Banner Material

We use Bantex 18oz double-sided. We've made thousands of boulevard banners with it, great stuff.
  15. Banner material too thick?! Now what?!

FYI, you may want to check out Orbus for your stands as well. Nothing against Creative Banner but we've found a lot of their stands to be of sub-par quality, especially compared to Orbus for the same price (or better). We used CBA for many years but had too many failures and issues to continue...
  16. Company Slogans. Do you have one?

Ours used to be "Helping you make your mark", we've not been using it on much marketing collateral lately as the vast majority of our work has shifted to wholesale to agencies, printers, designers, etc., so it's not as applicable as it was when we worked primarily for the end user. We haven't...
  17. Where to find a review?...

+1, above all else our laminators are the single most important tools we have, without them we'd be lost. Not necessarily for laminating but every single thing we mount goes through it, The amount of labor and frustration they save over the "old fashioned" way is staggering.
  18. Where to find a review?...

I'd go with the tangential if you plan on cutting a lot of reflective, especially prismatic. The drag knife probably will cut it okay but it'll be hard on it over time. The T head has I think 200 more grams of downforce and it's made to cut heavy thick materials like sandblast stencil and...
  19. Banner material too thick?! Now what?!

13oz is going to curl. You really need either a 13oz super-smooth or a film-type material. If you're really up a creek PM me, we can probably get these printed for you on the right material and sent out yet today or tomorrow at the latest. Not sure if that would help you out or not but if we can...
