  1. logistics for printing & installing 150 foot long banner?

I have a customer who wants a 150'x4' banner to hang on the exterior concrete wall of their car dealership. First of all, is this even possible? We print all our banners digitally and typically finish the ends with banner tape, but will that be enough for this size banner? I wonder if the...
  2. VersaWorks & Windows 7???

We're having a new wide format RIP dedicated PC built, and I need to tell the guy what OS to install. Has anyone tried using VersaWorks with Windows 7? I believe Windows 7 and Vista are my only choices, and the thought of using Vista makes my blood run cold.
  3. Overlaminate with plastic release liner = slack

I'm having a problem with MacTac ColorGard laminate, and its clear PET release liner. It webs onto my RS laminator just fine, but the liner never stays tightly wound on the take up reel. With longer lamination jobs, the liner builds up enough slack to actually be pulled between the rollers, thus...
  4. PDF file with lines broken apart

This kind of thing happens a lot with PDF files - even those originally created in Illustrator. Often gradients are sliced into dozens of thin rectangles and lines of text are broken into 3 character pieces that cannot be easily put back together. It has to do with the way postscript language is...
  5. why is laminating such a PAIN :frustrated:

great tips, guys. I'd love to ditch the craft paper. Gene, I'll have to try webbing like that next time.
  6. why is laminating such a PAIN :frustrated:

it seems like you're asking for trouble running the same lam and print size with no craft paper. If your alignment is not NASA perfect, you would have some major overlap after 20 or 30 feet of media are fed through. Wouldn't that leave lots of residue on the rollers and cause the print to get...
  7. why is laminating such a PAIN :frustrated:

the craft paper wrinkles, but the print and lam are fine. No amount of tension adjustment has corrected that, and since it does no damage, I leave it alone. I load the laminate by using a media box flap as a sled to make sure it feeds in straight.
  8. why is laminating such a PAIN :frustrated:

I guess the laminator is OK, but I'm having trouble finding a routine. The craft paper is an absolute must, even if it wrinkles all the time.
  9. why is laminating such a PAIN :frustrated:

We have a Roland VP-540 w/ take-up reel and a Royal Sovereign laminator with heat assisted upper roll. I love the Roland, and have little trouble with it, and I use the big squegee for all of my mounting work, but I just cannot find a good workflow for lamination if the piece is any larger than...

  12. VersaWorks media profile for Sihl SyntiSOL PP 3529?

I got a sample roll of this, and couldn't find a media profile on the Roland or Sihl website. I used the "SP-M Matte PET" profile at high quality and got lots of banding in my print. Anyone here have experience with this film?
  13. Roland VP 540 & Fluorescent vinyl

Anyone tried printing eco-solvent ink onto fluorescent vinyl? I Have a customer who wants bumper stickers which will be dark green with fluorescent yellow lettering in the center. I figured that I could probably find some color mix that looks like dark green on fluorescent yellow vinyl if my...
  14. packaging finished pieces...

I'm finally getting the hang of mounting graphics, trimming substrates and not having to throw away 1 for every 2 I get right. Do you guys have any suggestions for how to package these beautiful signs so they will still be beautiful when the customer receives them? A few examples: 1) Foam...
