  1. Backlit Office Directory

You all have a pretty good idea about what is there, so here's a little more information about this project. It is in the lobby of a building in downtown Boston, in the financial district in fact. So it's not a suburban office park and given a choice, we would retain the frame that's there...
  2. Backlit Office Directory

Does anyone have a source for backlit office directory systems? The only source I'm familiar with is Nelson Hawkins and the system I'm looking for cost over $6000. I have a customer who would like to replace the system shown on the attached photo with one that has larger (and fewer) tenant...
  3. Gerber Edge Thermal Printer + HS-15 Plotter for Sale

Looking to sell a Gerber Edge machine along with a Gerber HS-15 plotter. Both machines have been well-used, but are well maintained and still fully operational. The Edge printer is missing one printhead at the bottom, so if you're printing anything larger than 10.8" tall you will get a single...
  4. Faux finish help

Is there a kit available to apply a weathered zinc appearance to some metal brackets and caps? I've attached a photo of the finish I'm trying to achieve and find it difficult to achieve. I seem to recall there are kits for various metal styles available but I can't recall where I've seen...
  5. what is this?

I'd say Friz Quadrata Roman condensed about 90%.
  6. What do you use to manage and track everyday jobs?

We tried a number of more expensive solutions but are currently using and loving Basecamp. It's a generic program that's not at all specific to the sign industry, but it keeps everyone on the same page, notifies team members when they get an assignment, compiles and labels (Approved, etc)...
  7. Edge II Power Supply

We are upgrading our Edge LE next week and are in the process of listing it for sale. It has one dead pixel so it will sell for less the $1700. I have an Edge II here and can check to see if the power supplies are identical. That would make this a great parts "car".
  8. Wallcovering Media

    Bingo! Thank you.
  9. Wallcovering Media

I feel like an idiot, (actually I only feel old) but I have heard great things about a wall covering media whose name I can't remember. I only remember it starts with P. Can anyone help me remember this name so I can get a mural printed on it?
  10. Understanding Omega 5 layout as it relates to vinyl.

Gerber plotters have a max cutting area of 13.25". I've never created nor cared to create a document size in Omega, but we have version 2.5. We're upgrading to 5 next week. Does it require a document size? The version we use just expands to allow any size object you create.
  11. Best material to route letters for sign face?

We've done hundreds of dimensional letters out of PVC, but we paint every one of them with acrylic urethane paint. Even when we want white letters, we paint the white pvc white. You can drill and tap the back and stud mount the letters. For very thin (6 mm) or interior letters you can use VHB...
  12. ERA's new logo

Has anyone received a legit copy of the new ERA (real estate) logo? Our local franchisee is finding it difficult to get and I haven't seen it available online. Any links or contact info for marketing at ERA?
  13. Drive Thru Systems

A long time customer of mine has a chain of coffee shops and is looking to open his first location with a drive thru. He asked if I knew where to get a drive thru "system" which would include the signs and much more. Do sign shops supply such systems or do the system suppliers sell them with...
  14. Disable Sensor on Seal 54 Base Laminator

This: and this. I assume the model you have doesn't have a foot pedal because using that instead of turning on the feed causes the sensors to sound but not stop the rollers.
  15. Photoshop gradient help

In Photoshop you can fade directly from red to black. I reproduced it here and have no banding issues. I'll post a lo res version here to see if banding shows up as a jpg at lower resolution but I don't see any problems. Any reason you can think of why they did this in two layers?
  16. Polycarbonate Overlaminate

I haven't done this in a few years, but we were taught to use a rotary cutter, not knife blade, to trim polycarbonate. It prevents this from happening (don't ask me why).
  17. How much digital printing warrants buying a printer?

We bought our first wide format printer (and laminator) in 1996. We've had five wide format printers in that time and are still using our original laminator (a 62" Seal). Love the laminator. So why am I asking this question? Well our latest printer (an HP 8000) is six or seven years old...
  18. How much digital printing warrants buying a printer?

Thanks, that's a good way to look at it. The in house costs you use seem real but the outsource costs are much higher than $1/SF. I buy a mix of printed media, not just banners, and spend around $2000/month. I certainly don't buy 2000SF/month. I'll try to convert one set of units ($/SF) to...
  19. How much digital printing warrants buying a printer?

Funny (except it's not) that this print arrived today and is needed for an show tomorrow. I can only offer to touch this one up today or have a reprint tomorrow. This is the kind of thing I'm concerned about. Anyone know where to get a 96 color set of Sharpies?
  20. How much digital printing warrants buying a printer?

We are currently outsourcing all our digital printing for the first time in almost 20 years. While I love it in principle, it's not always as easy as it sounds. Especially when a print comes in wrong or damaged in transit and you need the print that day. I have always believed there are far...
