  1. "Sorry, we'll pay as soon as possible..."

"Buy low, sell high, collect early, pay late, you'r dismissed." That was the professors only words during my first finance class in college. A lot of big companies hire these fresh out of Harvard MBA whizz kids, who have no business experiance other than their classes. They think that by...
  2. "Sorry, we'll pay as soon as possible..."

I learned many years ago that restaurants are the worst possible customer for offset printing. I avoid them like the plague. I once did a bunch of paper menues for an Indian restaurant, the guy complained about the bill I mailed him. At 12 noon I showed up at the place, and took every menue...
  3. I Want To Accent The Grey!

Arlo, women just get old, men become seasoned, mature, and sophisticated. I am about 50% gray, and have no issue with it. At least no one calls me "young man" any more. It does somewhat freak me out when my some of my 16 year old son's politer friends say "sir" or "Mr." , but I don't know...
  4. New Job Title & Duties

We have always had problems with employees. A few years ago, after being swamped with applications from total loosers, I printed up a stack of info sheets about our employee expectations, one for our "up front" jobs, the other for production jobs. When people would come in, I would hand them...
  5. new neighbour...trouble begins

That kind of crap is why I moved out of my rented downtown row building, and built my own freestanding building. It was a headache to do it, but building my own place was probably the most profitable business endevor I have ever done. Cost me $35k of borrowed money (from my home equity credit...
  6. Getting Payment

Thats a great point! We also have a cash register, it does help. We do not use it to keep track of money, but I do punch a few buttons every time we put in a payment, just to make sure the customer gets the point that we are a real business.
  7. Today?

I think a lot of it is that we do live in an instant world. Instant coffee, a full meal at McD's in 3 minutes, ready made products off the shelf, microwave dinners, press a button and the photocopier will have a reproduction in 5 seconds, send an email or fax and it is there instantly. Why...
  8. Today?

Ya, and then they claim they shouldn't have to pay the rush charge since they waited two weeks!
  9. Getting Payment

I try to avoid doing business with friends and family, or anyone who indicates that they believe they are doing me a favor by purchasing from us. It rarely turns out well. As often as not they are shocked at what we charge for just one yardsign, and they get offended that we wont print them...
  10. Getting Payment

Years ago I had a guy who owed us something like $6. I waited several months before I sent him a statement. He came in and paid with pennies. Another guy owed us less than $50, got furious when we sent him a statement, called up and said that that amount was nothing, I asked: "since it was...
  11. Getting Payment

    Perfect! :thumb:
  12. Not a "what would you do?" But a "should I do..."

My thoughts exactly. The one other issue is the copyright issue, but realistically the websites are getting free advertising out of the deal.
  13. Mannheim Steamroller Christmas concert this season?

The show is very family oriented. I took my wife, my teen age son, my monther, and an employee. The audiance ranged from about 6 or 7 years old well into the 60's or even 70's. I got the cheap seats for $25 each and actually had a better view of parts of the show than the high dollar seats...
  14. Not a "what would you do?" But a "should I do..."

I have noticed the same thing, with the exception of American style retailers. But personally, I find it highly disrespectful to have someone try to get over on me. So exactly how many years (or generations) does it take these transplants to figure out our culture?
  15. Not a "what would you do?" But a "should I do..."

I am glad that it ain't just me. I was getting worried about that. :rock-n-roll: That is possible. Maybe they misinterpret my polite and respectful attitude to them as weakness which they are somehow obligated to exploit. :banghead: I agree. Come to think about it, I guess I...
  16. Mannheim Steamroller Christmas concert this season?

never seen Mannheim, but I went to Trans Siberian Orchistra last Fri, they were fantastic. I would highly recommend seeing them.
  17. Not a "what would you do?" But a "should I do..."

Virtually all, people with foreign accents, tend to be problem customers. I cant explain why, I have to assume it is a cultural thing. I don't have anything against foreigners, but they just tend to be pain in the arse customers. I dont know if my mechanic customer is limiting myself as much...
  18. Does this make sense????

Oh. I don't own a pickup, never had, so maybe that explains my ignorance.
  19. Does this make sense????

I still have no idea what a Tonneau is. Is it the truck? Maybe I am stupid, actually I think that is a well demonstrated fact, but lots of us are morons. If I don't know what a Tonneau is, I figure some other people don't know either. Is there anyway that you can explain, even in the small...
  20. Not a "what would you do?" But a "should I do..."

I would print exactly what he brought you, and hope that they are low res so that they look horrible (in addition to the watermark). I don't mind dealing with anyone from any race or religion, but I cant stand dealing with anyone with a foreign accent. Nearly 100% of the time they try to...
