Most of the direct to substrate/item UV flatbed printers can accomodate thick items (like 5 - 8" high objects) but what is the deepest print you've made on a object?
Did you print on a item that tapered or curved up and down, a distance of like 2 - 4 inches? Or are all the UV flatbeds, only...
fHmmmm... tell me more about this conversion on a small UV flatbed. I'm currently looking around for a smallish UV flatbed, that can print on somewhat thick/deep materials.

Do you know of any companies in China, that might be making a printer that is pseudo open source? I.E. Allows end user to customize or put addon components onto a skeleton printer structure with all needed electronics?
User swappable inkjet heads, user swappable ink types/cartridges, etc...
conveyor printing systems with multiple print stations is not really what this board's members probably want. I think a more traditional form factor of plotter or flatbed is probably the open source printer we want...

Reply back to this thread, should you get Peck2. I think it won't work, unless you are connected to the internet... i.e. Roland servers. I suspect this is how they prevent owner repair work... but maybe I'm wrong...
Yes absolutely, It's a harder task to justify the increased expense due to the time + ink vs a single pass inkjet print.

The 2.5D print capabilities are already here... everything you need is all available.
However, it does consume way more ink... which means you have to charge the premium prices for textural relief... and on my Roland.. it's also SLOW
