  1. Open-Source Inkjet Printer Project

So.... how does the Open Source progress begin? Who is going to spearhead this project? A fun topic to discuss... I've been waiting for the Open Source printer for well over 2 decades...
  2. Open-Source Inkjet Printer Project

    The i3200 is only a 600 dpi resolution. Way too low these days... and the price is almost the same as 7900/9000 print head. @ Resolution: 2880 x 1440 dpi, 1440 x 1440 dpi, 1440 x 720 dpi, 720 x 720 dpi, 720 x 360 dpi, 360 x 360 dpi i3200 head: The I3200 printhead has three models such as...
  3. 3D surface scanning and textural/dimensional relief inkjet printing

Sounds cool. I'm guessing the 3D surface you milled was a generic wood texture? Or did you 3D scan existing boards and replicate? Was the inkjet print also a generic wood fill image, or did you perfectly match and register custom photographic images to the 2.5D boards?
  4. 3D surface scanning and textural/dimensional relief inkjet printing

    Hmmmm.. what kind of gadgets?
  5. 3D surface scanning and textural/dimensional relief inkjet printing

Akuarela: Thanks, those are nice samples. Very similar to what I'm producing as well. Currently, I can only max out at 1mm height of ink... so it's definitely visible, but I wish I could get at least 2 - 3mm of height clearance before head strikes occur. Vassago: Yes, I've seen that...
  6. Open-Source Inkjet Printer Project

For me, the goal would be to have the open source printer allow 2 variants: 1. 12 - 16 color channels/heads. Bulk ink system. This would allow more primaries and a larger color gamut. Roll printer is fine, as this system would take fine art papers and photographic papers. Width of 64" to...
  7. Longest lasting digital print?

Epson Ultrachrome HDX inks are going to the be longest archival non fugitive inks on fine art papers. There's no other 3rd party accelerated light testing for the other inks (UV, Solvent, EcoSolvent, Dye Sublimation, Latex, etc) that shows legit data. There is some sketchy marketing that...
  8. 3D surface scanning and textural/dimensional relief inkjet printing

Nice, yeah I figured other flatbeds can do this... as essentially you are just running multiple files on top of each other. The most I've stacked, 12 layers.
  9. 3D surface scanning and textural/dimensional relief inkjet printing

Currently, I'm using a Roland UV printer to generate the dimensional relief. However, a CNC router makes sense to carve away the relief and then print directly to the surface or wrap. If the depth isn't too great, I'd think a heat wrapped vinyl could be a nice short term application. SwissQ...
  10. 3D surface scanning and textural/dimensional relief inkjet printing

So I've started 3D scanning surfaces of painting and materials.. and then doing a 2.5D dimensional inkjet print. Curious if anyone else is looking into this, already making prints like this, etc etc Similar to how Artcam might build a BasRelief, but instead, I'm using raster data to create the...
  11. 3D rendering software

Houdini and Blender will do this... https://www.youtube.com/live/sAI4PgIsAyU?si=T1DmRjwVUStG12x8
  12. UV Printer & Prints Making us Sick

From Roland: "Unlike solvent-based printing methods, which release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere, UV printing is eco-friendly. It doesn't emit harmful fumes, making it a cleaner and safer choice for industrial applications." "New wide-gamut, environmentally friendly...

  17. Roland felt wiper replacements

resurrecting this old thread. I have a LEC2-300... I see felts on AliExpress and other places online that say they are Roland Felts (compatible) Anyone try these Chinese felts and wipers?
  18. Thoughts on STS inks? (UV roland ink replacements)

I've always run the Roland OEM eco-uv inks in my printer, but I've wondered if 3rd party replacement inks from STS might be decent. Any thoughts or experience with them? Especially for the UV eco inks? The price on their large cartridges is pretty good vs Roland's thanks
  19. Roland UV Inks...

At this point, I've got a wide variety of past expiration cartridges... searching on the web, the general consensus among UV ink print shops/owners... is don't use expired inks. Maybe slightly past, like a month.... I don't know if Roland is getting their inks from Epson (this was the rumor I...
  20. Roland UV Inks...

just an update.. I'm noticing color shifts and ink cracking with using old expired ink... I think not using expired ink is probably the safest route
