If your just cutting vinyl, why not just sketch out on paper by hand the rough look of the vehicle. Measure the area of where you want to put the letters and fit your design into that area. If your friend wants to see what it will look like before hand, then take a good clear, straight on...

Is "Generic vinyl" the profile your using ? I assume your printing on a standard glossy vinyl. If so, try using the "GCVP" profile. I've always had good success with that.

Never saw any trial versions, but you can get a subscription for as little as one month. I think it's around 29.00 for a month. It can be cheaper, but you have to commit for a year. Seems like this would be your best option. BTW in the months time, you could convert all the Flexi files to EPS...
