  1. Yet another illustrator question.

But if you use that same image in other files it will change all of those too? We have a clipart file where we drop in various images for use. If I place one of those in multiple documents over the years then I, or someone, inadvertently changes that clipart image then all those files are now no...
  2. Clip from an image with illustrator

I use Draw and Paint. Paint can do everything photoshop can do and integrates much better. In corel I can either hit edit bitmap or double-click the bitmap, paint comes up, do my thing hit save and drop back into corel without have to re-import the edited or "place". I was sure this could be...
  3. Clip from an image with illustrator

Turns out my script doesn't work! It only creates a new bitmap to the size of the intersect.
  4. Yet another illustrator question.

You're absolutely correct. I'm having a bad day. I really do appreciate the help. I know how frustrating it is to "teach an old dog new tricks". I've had several employees over the years who were trained with illustrator and frustrated having to learn corel. I'm a self taught user of corel. I...
  5. Yet another illustrator question.

Why would I "open" the image if the file I'm working on is sized the way I need it to be. Opening creates a new doc. Copy/Paste does not Embed. Wait, you mean open the image, then copy and paste to my other file. Counterintuitive! I don't want to have to hit Embed each and every time. Also...
  6. Clip from an image with illustrator

Wow, you must have never been in a racing event where every advantage is crucial. lol 3 clicks for one function, 3 more for another etc. adds up. I'm working 10-15 projects a day. To include proofing, plotting, weeding, applications, etc. Speed is absolutely imperative! It doesn't bother you...
  7. Yet another illustrator question.

I know I'm frustrating a lot of you adobe users but I can't learn illy if I don't ask questions. Trust me though, I'm learning a lot on my own. Anyway, I come to realize that bitmaps are automatically "linked" if you drag and drop. And if you "Place" a bitmap you have to uncheck "Link"...
  8. Clip from an image with illustrator

Select the shape (text, shape or another bitmap), shift select the bitmap, or any other shape, you want to clip from and with one click, you get a "clipout". Adobe users are stuck on the "clipping mask" thing. Like I explained, a clipping mask will always be the same size of the shape used to...
  9. Clip from an image with illustrator

Never! Just trying to diversify. Learning, as I knew already, that things are a lot simpler in Corel. And how the workspace and shortcuts can be fully customized. This is just a quick way to create a clipping mask. Still not the desired outcome as explained before. Still have to manually set...
  10. Clip from an image with illustrator

Created a script to do it.
  11. Clip from an image with illustrator

Okay, yes, but that would be a pia task if you had to do it several times.
  12. Clip from an image with illustrator

Hmmm, I don't want the boundaries that the clipping mask produces. The black box is the actual boundaries of the clipping mask, not only that you'd still have the full image which increases the file size. I'm after a true "cropped" section of the image.
  13. Clip from an image with illustrator

Ok, I figured it out. I didn't have the rectangle in the front. Works fine if the rectangle is completely within the image, however, if I just want a corner of an image the clipping mask will be the same size as the rectangle instead of a "crop out" of the image. Does that make sense? Maybe it's...

  15. Clip from an image with illustrator

So, if I wanted the orig to remain I'd have to create a duplicate in place then make a clipping mask?
  16. Clip from an image with illustrator

  17. Best regards from Germany :)

    Welcome to the show! :rock-n-roll:
  18. Question Is there a way to distribute shapes like this in illustrator?

Yes, visual accuracy. Suppose you have 3 bulleted lists and you want them to be evenly spaced horizontally.
  19. Question Is there a way to distribute shapes like this in illustrator?

Oh, an action to run the script, figured it out.
  20. Question Is there a way to distribute shapes like this in illustrator?

Tried that. Didn't work. With my shapes selected, create New Action, name it hit Record draw a vertical line segment to left edge of artboard, draw a line segment to the right add those to my selection then run the alignment. Distributes as desired. Delete line segments. Stop recording. I get...
