Since you're using a serial connection, and not USB or ethernet, You can try a serial to USB cable (Serial from cutter to USB on PC). OR you could buy a PCI Serial card, if your PC serial port went bad or something. You can also try just a different serial cable, sometimes the cable can go bad.

Looks like a nice quality print for the good old SP-300V. You can even do 4'x8' and larger faces if you seam the print. Just do about a 3/16" overlap. You will be amazed what you can do with that printer even being only 30"

Try "job monitor" program on the start menu under SAI. Maybe you can remove it from there.
