  1. Interesting...

Well, Adobe stepped across the line and caught someone's attention. DOJ and FTC filed a suit against them. Here's a link to the DOJ press release, there's also a link to the full complaint on the page, although heavily redacted...
  2. Affinity and Summa cutter´s

If print equipment Mfgrs would partner up with Affinity for plugin support too, it would be game-over for Adobe. I've been using Affinity exclusively for designing for a few years now, send files right to rip from it, the ONLY issue is cutting. Currently I only have one license for one copy of...
  3. Substrate options for 10 foot outdoor sign

Do seams all the time. I'd use 60" wide ACM, run the seam vertical, right down the center with a support brace behind it. It'll be shorter than running it horizontal, couple feet less to brace, and look better. It'll outlast painted wood in that application too.
  4. Rant Has windows defender ever caught a VIRUS?

It's not solely defender that protects, there's also the windows firewall and malware tools, modern network modems/ routers also have their own firewall, and there's password protection. It's not so much any one in particular does anything magic, it's just the layers that have to be penetrated...
  5. How to trim down a 33-foot-long banner?

Not sure, I'd have to ask the boss. If I remember I'll ask next week. I think we might only have one more of theirs on the schedule in our territory, so they seem to be coming to an end here too. We've been going crazy with updated branding for a ton different chains.
  6. How to trim down a 33-foot-long banner?

You just need to get better equipped. If you have the room to do it on the floor, you have room for tables. I have 4x12 tables, same height, on wheels that I can move around for large stuff. We made the tables ourselves, welded steel frames with MDF tops and cutting mats. Probably a worthwhile...
  7. Suggestions Banner Sewing

Place I retired from had a Mitsubishi double needle, don't remember the model number. It was kind of an entry level industrial, never had any issues with it. I kind of miss having one.
  8. Weird order scam? Anyone ever have something like this before?

I once got three emails the same day, same exact "almost english" body message wanting design work for a new business, all had different email addresses and contacts. Either multiple scammers trying this, too lazy to change anything, or just one that's completely and utterly incompetent. :roflmao:
  9. Painted lettering

A lot of paints are formulated to repel dirt, unfortunately they repel most vinyl too. When you get requests for stuff like this, you need something aggressive, and need to do an adhesion test. If you see any issues, knowing how to paint them on is a good additional skill to have to give...
  10. Does this jog any memories? (for Gen Xers and older)

I do remember those. My parents used Guardian, they quit selling them when I was little, slowly got replaced as I was growing up. It all sat in boxes in the attic till my older sister got her first place, and they became her first set of cookware. She probably still has them in storage. Cool...
  11. PLEASE CALL SECURITY - looking for reflective blue

The 2012 guide is probably the same one I have on file. It's a little outdated, but it looks like they use the same striping scheme with the exception of the red 911, so you'll be able to design it to whatever vehicle is used if they don't have an updated one. Which they probably don't. You'll...
  12. reflective qr codes

    Oops....
  13. Best practice for cut vinyl ACM sign

    Yup. just like anything else.
  14. Best practice for cut vinyl ACM sign

I'd go with C, quick, easy, collect, and go have lunch. Colored ACM, you'll get different results with different manufacturers, some is pretty cheap and will either fade sooner, or dark colors that get hotter in the sun will try to warp it. Stick with good stuff, and there's usually no issues...
  15. Question Got offered a good deal on an HP Scitex FB500

Thank so much everyone. Being refurbished, all new heads, a very clean machine, and being fairly local, it was a tempting deal for the price as an addition. Being past it's service life is what was making me leery, especially with HP who's rather notorious for no parts availability after EOL ...
  16. finishing reverse channel letters

I grew up in a body shop, my teething rings were bondo spreaders... Matthews paint is the bomb for this stuff, but my little brain instantly goes to what body shops use for filling/ pre-finishing supplies, primers, etc. :)
  17. finishing reverse channel letters

Hit up a auto parts store that sells automotive paints. Whatever brands they carry, they'll have best options for easy to work fillers, spot putties, high build polyester and epoxy primers, etc. Most will set up a jobber account for sign companies too, so you'll get better pricing than buying...
  18. Question Got offered a good deal on an HP Scitex FB500

Not overly familiar with these, but I was offered a great deal on a tech refurbished one. All new print heads, has the roll to roll option, comes with extension tables, just need to do the white ink conversion. Opinions on quality??? Reliability??? PITA to convert to white? What's the good...
  19. Roof mounted sign letters

BWAHAHAHA!!!!! :roflmao: Yeah, people just don't get it that agents will say anything to sell/ lease. That statement alone is enough of a red flag to just decline.
  20. Laminating

Agree with White Haus, you shouldn't need them to laminate if prints are cured completely, unless you always have dirty greasy fingers. For handling substrates for flatbed printing where everything shows up, I always used lint free cotton inspection gloves. They're cheap, and disposable.
