Still the CET. Printed 1440 with double-strike. Look great, you know... other than this...
  2. Window perf + UV print

Printed several large 42x61 inch panels with Clear Focus window perf on our UV printer and the ink that has dried in the "holes" is not releasing when we peel the backer off. Short of spending hours blowing out the holes with an air gun, anyone got any suggestions on how to get the negative...
  3. Huge oversized "brick"

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. this is being used as a promotional "prop" for one of the largest healthcare systems in the country to promote buying a dedication brick for a cancer center expansion and a children's hospital upgrade. I like the boat float idea the best as spraying...
  4. Huge oversized "brick"

Okay, so one of my national clients has a wild hair up their nether region and asked if I could come up with something to look like a brick that is 5x3x2 and I said "no problem" we can just print straight to a brick on the flatbed and he laughed and said , "No... 5 FEET by 3 FEET by 2 FEET"...

  7. What kind of BLACK color built?

Remember - alot goes into particular brands of presses, inks, rollers and media, etc.... so its not a quick answer to say whats right or wrong - it was what gave us best result on an older 40" Heidelberg at the time with standard dots and film based plates. The advent of CTP technology probably...
  8. What kind of BLACK color built?

Depends on your inks and which way they lean in hue/saturation. My UV inks run to the warm side, so I tend to have a cyan lead - like 40C/30M/20Y/100K - keeps it from turning to charcoaly brown. In offset - we used to use 65/55/50/100 - but thats alot of ink.
  9. Um, Ya, You gotta watch this

He does all of that... yet, carries his bike up the stairs? WTF?
  10. pantone 165 - cant find a close match

I would think certain Roland printers would be able to print that orange pretty easily, too
  11. UV Printer NEEDED!

Chuck's right. You have to determine what will be the maximum amount you would ever vacuum form and find an ink that can withstand the tension. 3M was supposed to have a vacuum form capable ink to run in Vutek machines, but I don't know how flexible it was. You kind of have to start backwards...
  12. Sign Shop Recycling by the numbers (real evidence it's worth it)

I take it a step further and have an industrial chipper/shredder that we put all our coro, pvc, acrylic, etc. in that is 1/4" and under and it chops the living snot out of it into small manageable chunks. We then take those bags of material to a plastics recycler on a random trip to pick up...
  13. Print brokering?

I would suppose that anyone here who sends work to another printer/vendor either because of lack of particular needed equipment, size limitations or sheer capabilites is, in essence, a print broker since they are buying from a wholesaler and marking it up to their clients. There are plusses...

  16. Looking for current best deal on 13 oz. banner material

What is your volume and what do you consider a low per square foot price?
  17. new printer

Mutoh I have one of the rare (or seemingly so) Mutoh Blizzards and it is a work horse. For doing banners we get just over 600 square feet an hour at 2-pass bidirectional. You can turn the Intelligent Interweaving off and get real close to 800 sq. ft. an hour on a 65" machine - but that is for...
  18. Inside the Situation Room

Am I the only one greatly disappointed that the actual situation room is smaller than my guest bedroom and nothing like the techno-wiz place on The West Wing? It looks like they are in a closet...
  19. HP Scitex FB700

Yeah... samples don't always turn out fantastic as the demo guys are just trying to crank them out. I do some gorgeous stuff on acrylic/polycarb. Take the Top Product stuff with a grain of salt. If you look in this month's issue of Wide Format Imaging under Top Shops - I am number 41. We...
  20. HP Scitex FB700

You should have looked at the CET FK512. I have a 6x10 bed and 6 colors + 4 heads of dedicated white or you can switch to 2 heads of white and 2 heads of varnish if you so desire. Uses same heads as Oce/Fuji (Konica 512s) and has a 14 picoliter droplet and quality is outstanding. I print to...
